One thing though - the first film was made for a theatrical release and was shot in 35mm and presented in glorious cinemascope, while the sequels were initially made for television and have a more rough look in widescreen.

Lisbeth Salander is a great character - a fourth book is being prepared from a manuscript left unfinished by Stieg Larsson.

The fourth book seriously annoys me. Larsson left an unfinished manuscript on his computer for the fourth book, and his common law wife of 30 years has control of it. She's stated that she will reveal it and have it published, against the wishes of the family. I'm disgusted by it. I certainly know nothing of the marital relationship, but it seems obvious that she merely wants to profit from it. There is no way Larsson knew he would have a massive heart attack and suddenly die, so it seems unlikely that he would have left instructions for her regarding the fourth book. I know many people who have read the third book and have stated that it concluded very well (NOBODY SPOIL IT IF YOU HAVE READ IT). Unfortunately, this seems to be a similar case as with Vladimir Nabokov's last manuscript (author of Lolita) entitled the Original of Laura, which was published last year based solely on his 130 notecards.

As much as I love the books, and trust me I'm obsessed with them, I don't want an unfinished book released or a ghostwriter used to finish it. I want the novels to end in the way that he intended, after the third book (which was meant to be the first trilogy in Salander's story).

I am immune to joking around....

Btw, I'm moving Rope into the top 5 of my queue. After next week, I will be returning to seeing two films a week via netflix, so my viewing will speed back up.

I saw this film in DC the other day - really enjoyable, one of the best films I've seen so far this year. I really well-done thriller. Looking forward to a BD release- hasn't it been released in some countries already, it came out in Sweden ages ago I think? Those releases probably don't have English theatrical subs to be fair, but I'm really looking forward to getting it.

I've heard from a few sources the film sequels aren't as good... to be honest I think I'd quite like to read the books before I see the sequels.

I doubt it will ever play in the Swamp.

Hopefully they will release it on Region A BD before the Weinstein's buy it, dub it and re-edit it, or they decide to have Michael Bay do an American version.

I want to see it, but I might not see it theatrically, maybe for rent on blu ray.

I'm going to hold off and see it next week, when family comes to visit (since they want to see it). Sounds interesting. Never read the book.

Glad to hear that you guys like the film. Don't worry about not having read the book before seeing the film - I'm one of the 7 Scandinavians left in the world who haven't read the books either.

Default David Fincher Directing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Next

Quote:
Remember what we said just a week or two ago about David Fincher and his ever-expanding list of possible projects? About how they’re always subject to change? At the time it looked as if he might direct Pawn Sacrifice, the Tobey Maguire-produced film about Bobby Fischer and his 1970s showdown against Soviet chess master Boris Spassky. But that time was also when Fincher started circling a gig directing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for real.

Now, it appears that he’s in fact going to direct the adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s best-selling book, the Swedish movie version of which is finally in US theaters right now.

The Playlist (fairly well on a roll today) has the news that Fincher is taking on the project, saying they’ve confirmed that it is “definitely Fincher’s next film.”

Carey Mulligan has been on a wishlist and in the rumor mill for the pivotal role of Lisbeth Salander (played by Noomi rapace in the Swedish film) but she has recently said that she isn’t formally part of the film at this point. The Playlist hears that Fincher wants an unknown for the role, and given that Sony is supposedly wildly happy with his work on The Social Network (and that he’s David Fincher) there’s reason to expect that he could get away with casting an unknown should he find someone that clicked.

And to reiterate another rumor, Brad Pitt and George Clooney are both names that have both been bandied about for the lead male role. With Fincher at the helm they seem more possible, but then again Fincher can probably get anyone he wants. Not having read the book (it’s been sitting on my shelf for months, but I have a new Ellroy to finish!) I’ve got no idea if they’re actually good for the role.

WORST CHOICE EVER. Yeah, Fincher has a propensity to shoot his films in a dark manner, which is needed for this film, but he's one of the most overrated directors in the history of Hollywood. He hasn't made a single mediocre, let alone quality, film. Decent directing for Benjamin Button, but terrible film.

Squid knew exactly what was coming. Stick to the overrated cult trash. Okay I'm done

Btw, Barnes and Noble now has a display set up in the very front of the store with the first two books in the triology, since the third comes out in a month.
