Slowly but surely I am replacing my DVD collection with Blu-Ray. Always check the reviews here first before I commit myself. I would never consider buying a DVD as I am totally commited to buying Blu. I find Catalogue releases the best value over DVD - for the most part you can really tell the difference... and it helps to promote more film preservation to Blu-Ray for the long term. Since going Blu I have never looked back.

Well, I just upgraded last month, so the majority of my collection is still on the DVD format. That said, I won't be re-purchasing everything on Blu-Ray, because I'd prefer to save the "hi-def experience" for films with an epic canvas or "feel' to them. At the moment, I only have three titles on Blu: the first two "Narnia" pictures, and Edward Norton's "Incredible Hulk". I'll probably be upgrading "Iron Man" soon, and I'll definitely be doing the same for "Spider-Man", once they release the first two with the extras intact.

I would love to pitch my old DVD collection, but i still love the movies too much to get rid of it untill the Blue-ray version comes out.
I just find it hard to watch up converted DVD on my High Def set. Once you go High Def it's hard to look back at standard definition. Thank you all on your replies. |

I still have all my DVDs and I don't really plan on parting with them. Hell, I still plan on buying DVDs for some movies. So far, the only blu-rays I have bought are all either action movies or animated movies. Believe it or not, "Avatar" will be the first blu-ray that I'll buy without already owning the DVD. And even then, the blu-ray comes with a DVD copy of it. DVD isn't dead yet, and I don't think it will be for a while. I will continue to buy TV shows on DVD, mainly because I already have seasons of "The Office", "The Simpsons", "South Park" and "Lost" on DVD and I don't see myself getting the rest of it on Blu-ray because they would look weird on the shelf next to each other. Also, the DVDs of those shows are still cheaper. I watched the 13th season of South Park on DVD on my blu-ray player and it looked clear enough. I don't see how the blu-ray could be that much better.

I surely haven't given up on DVD's simply because I watch many of them! Sure, I wish they were released on blu-ray but how else can I enjoy many of my favorite movies such as the Jaws series, The Endless Summer, Blue Hawaii, The Spy Who Loved Me, A Good Year, Rear Window, Pleasantville, Creature From The Black Lagoon, etc? And those are just favorites of the top of my head.
I suspect a few of the above to be released very soon on blu-ray. And I'll definitely be excited. But for me it is still ulrimately about the enjoyment of watching a favorite MOVIE, not the format! And I'm definitely a fan of blu! But I never want to get to a point where the beauty of blu makes me negative towards favorite films that are on DVD. A great movie only available on DVD is still 1000% better than not being able to watch the film at all! Thus, until blu-ray truly replaces DVD catalogs (so that even older/less acclaimed films get released on blu), then I can't imagine abandoning DVDs anytime soon. I like to think all my favorite films WILL be released on blu eventually. But until (or if) that happens, I have a good number of DVDs that are in current use within my collection. The way I see it is: a favorite film upgraded from DVD to blu is wonderful. But a favorite film available on only DVD is still priceless! If the alternative is not seeing it at all. That's my own thoughts anyways... Last edited by Popcorn_Bliss; 04-05-2010 at 02:41 AM. |

I still have many dvds and most are not on blu-ray yet. I am not in any hurry to change all that are. And most TV shows I own will probably never see the light of day on blu for a real long time so I will still buy a few of them on standard dvd. I won't get rid of my dvds as I'll be damned if I'm gonna miss out on watching some of my faves until when or if they hit blu.

I get rid of my DVDs as I replace them. But, I've found they are pretty much worthless trade-in wise, so I keep the around and give them away as Christmas presents (not the only presents I give). They were quite the hit last year, probably more than a lot of the real presents they got from some people.

I have purchased some DVDs for my son. For me, the only DVD I have bought in the last three years was the complete Get Smart DVD set. I usually give away the DVD version my duplicate movies, with a few exemptions.

Thankfully, I placed my DVD collection of roughly 1500 titles on Ebay the day after I bought my first HD DVD and HD A1 player. It wasn't too long after that that I also bought a PS3 and decided Blu-ray was the way to go. I parted with the DVDs because I suspected the market would become flooded and the value of the once beloved discs would sink. I was right—its difficult to get even a buck or two for many used titles these days. I'm not sure how deep the studios will reach into their catalogs for Blu-ray, but I have a wish list a mile long!

I have a 13 inch tv in my computer room so it's great for all my dvd's and also, so many older movies that may never make it to Blu-ray that I just can't let go of. Many of them look just great upconverted with a high quality chip, so their keepers. Also have a large HD DVD collection and think it's great to have all three formats, but YES, I mostly gave up on purchasing dvd's unless they are old films that I still want in my collection.

I still have around 200 DVDs left, I'll keep them for awhile. Anyway my daughter who's away on college sends for some titles every so often. I trimmed at least 100 titles, which I gave away, however no plans of giving away the rest since these are titles that most likely I'd take with me on trips.
