No, but you see a Lucasfilm Ltd Production an awful lot.
And you see Lucas companies listed in the credits of more films than you can imagine, from Skywalker Sound to ILM. He's left a huge legacy beyond Star Wars to the film industry, and really deserves a bit more respect than people on forums show him. |

But indeed, that's what I've always seen him like, the founder of those companies basically and not a typical film-maker. |

![]() Just kidding, I don't actually think George Lucas is the antichrist or anything... his companies make great contributions and as a businessman, producer and, occasionally, overall storyteller I concede that he has had some real achievements and is a massive influence. It's just as a filmmaker himself he is quite lacking when it comes to directing and script-writing and nowhere is this more apparent than in Star Wars - the thing he has had most direct input/control over. As Damage Inc says its mainly in relation to Star Wars we're talking about. I'm not even a massive fan of the franchise anyway, just like discussing... That said, I've not seen the original trilogy in about a decade so I am quite looking forward to the BD of them... |

For someone who is quite lacking, he's certainly had more success than most.
What everyone always forgets is that the films are very much influenced, and are a homage, to the Flash Gordon serials of the 1930's / 1940's - which had stilted dialogue. Personally, I think he is a fantastic film maker, but I'm not going to get dragged into an argument here. I just think it's very sad that so many people are so set against him, and it isn't just an opinion about his work, people are downright nasty about him, and there really isn't any need for that. |

And I don't mean to say he's some kind of god or anything. But it's also not like he already had a lot of money to just buy himself success straight away. Quote:

It's just like this "thing" you do, you know, as a 'Star Wars'-fan or as a film-fan. Like some group of people started like "Let's all hate George Lucas now..." and they set this trend and everybody joined in cause "it's what you do". I bet half don't even know what they're "angry" about, well yeah "just because the other fans are" basically... lol It just all starts at the source of where fans take these films too seriously. Then decades later the creator(s) make(s) some updates and it angers the long-time fans. Well, it's to be expected to have some "face-lifts" and such in such a long time. I mean, we're also getting 'Titanic' in 3D, just because now technology has come to that. If it's a good idea, we'll see, but there's not need to rip on Cameron for it. If the original version isn't released again is another thing. But with 'Star Wars' in general you have the whole rage over the principle of the changes anyway. Which just stacks up the "reasons" for the "fans" to be "angry". It just got silly and it all just gets pointed at George Lucas. Yeah, he might be kind of a strange person sometimes I guess, but, as said, reactions from "fans" can really go too far too. -_- |

I don't see how he's a strange person. His view is that the films as originally released to theatres did not meet his vision as a film maker, and he no longer wants those versions available. It's sad for those who grew up with them, but, it's not like the new versions are radically different, and in most cases, they improve on them.
It's just the same with the prequels. A large group of people hated them because they weren't what they were expecting. The Clone Wars animated show is probably closer to what people were anticipating with the prequels. People cannot look beyond the fact that the original movies were essentially kids films, and Jar Jar Binks is no worse a creation than the Ewoks, or the droids with their constant bickering, or, dare I say it, Yoda when he is first introduced as a rather manic muppet. The new Indiana Jones was no different, and all the negative criticism went Lucas' way. Too many fans looking at Star Wars through rose tinted spectacles, and when something doesn't jibe with their rosy childhood memories they want to denounce Lucas. If I were him I'd probably just stick two fingers up at the world for the way they've treated him these days. |
