I think they have given me the last 2 years of HD free though, so I cant complain about the cost to much, just the selection.

Did anybody watch the ILS launch of the latest one?
Heres the link:

They got got some new satellite up this past year yes?

And then there's another getting activated some time next year, correct? That's the way I understood it.

Anyways, I'm in no hurry to upgrade simply because the HD channels they are adding, so far, just aren't worth it to me.

Basically, I won't upgrade until I have to and when/if I decide to...I need to see better than the HD-lite they run now for the most part.

My father informed me that the DircTV activation date for the new channels is Sept 15. He is a DirecTV dealer and has his own TV store. He also tells me the FCC tried to get DirecTV to activate the channels on Sept 2, but we know that didn't happen. Hopefully they will make good on the 15th.

I'll be watching this thread for developments. We punted DirecTV when we realized we'd had it on for about two hours in three months. We've got two kids under 4 and it curtails our viewing time considerably---even shows which we felt we could watch with the kids around were ruined by the commercials: how can I enjoy my King of the Hill reruns when my kids are faced with Kiefer Sutherland or Michael Chiklis waving guns in people's faces on the breaks? (And I'm in no mood to buy another piece of hardware AND pay a subscription fee to DVR a bunch of shows we'll not have time to watch). We decided we'd be willing to reconsider returning when they upped their HD content because watching SD broadcast on HDTV is just lame...so we put up an antenna, enjoy what over-air HD programming we can get, watch a lot less crap...we've even rediscovered PBS. And spent more money on DVDs (and now BDs).

But I miss my satellite, especially on days like today: Arkansas v. Alabama on ESPN, and I'll have to listen on the radio .

Also in case you are not aware of it yet VOD or DOD is coming very soon.
VOD (DOD) is already available for us testers. Also remote booking is coming very soon as well. It's starting to look up for us DTV guys.

It's gonna be awhile before cable companies can have this many channels! Basically until they move to IPTV.

Of those 50 channels they're adding in HD, how many will air quality content?
which antenna do you use? I'm thinkin of doin the same but not sure which one to get.

Ha, I feel ya brother! I mean seriously, they've been promising so much for so long; that's the only reason I'm so anxious. I hope they deliver so that I can justify sticking with them. (they don't even broadcast my local channels in HD where I'm at)
