Day 1 purchase for sure! Can't remember last time I enjoyed a movie at the theatres like I enjoyed this one! Made me laugh and laugh!

This movie was great. It knew exactly what it was and refused to shy away from it. The only part that I couldn't stand were the scenes with Julie Benz and Paul Schulze because their characters were annoying together. I never got around to buying the first BD, which was supposedly great in the A/V department, so I'll more than likely get this one.

9 minutes ? it is exactly the same running time of the deleted scenes on the previous dvd release. look like a useless release to me (like Extented cuts of Hollow Man or Casualties of War from Sony)

Plus, Stalonne mentions a director's Cut and now Lionsgate announced a Extented Cut. it's not the same.
http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=27753

In the Empire interview, he mentioned a specific scene: "He does a speech at the beginning of the movie to Julie Benz where he lays out why his life has been a complete disappointment and why war is natural and peace is an accident,” added Stallone. “And how he just feels that his life has been a waste. It’s very important to hear that and I didn’t think so at the time. I’m going to go back and put in some stuff.”

this scene is in the deleted section on the previous dvd/Blu-ray release.

No, it's a totally different cut. It isn't just scenes added back in. Things have been moved around and the overall movie is really quite improved.

It is the same. The new cut was personally overseen by Sly and edited by Sean Albertson, editor of the theatrical cut. The difference between calling it "director's cut" or "extended cut" is all semantics. Truth be told, the theatrical cut was also the "director's cut" but as the original Blu-ray was being worked on, Stallone started to see things he wanted to change once he didn't have the pressure of the theatrical release date looming.

And that's one of the reasons this new cut exists. Working on the original disc, he realized how much he liked that scene and ultimately regretted cutting it. But, again, as the assertion that the extended/director's cut is nothing more than the deleted scenes shoehorned into the theatrical cut is totally wrong. The film no longer begins with the soldiers tormenting the Karen villagers with "the race," there are some different lines of dialog throughout (some of which replace some of the, some might say, cheesier lines), some of the FX shots that didn't hold up so well on BD have been shorten to maximize their effectiveness, some additional scenes have been added (as seen in the deleted scenes from the previous disc- but now they work because they are seen within the context of the film), and the film has been renamed John Rambo - just as Stallone original planned.

Overall, I think this cut of the film is superior to the theatrical in just about every way. For people who liked the theatrical version, I really think they'll be converted to the new cut after one viewing and it will quickly become the go-to version for most people.

Thanks for the explication, Cliff, it seems more interesting now. as Stallone mentioned a scene we all saw in the deleted scenes section, I was afraid the rest of the "new" scenes come from the same place. Thanks

See, now this is my definition of a director's cut. Not only are new scenes added, but what was there to begin with had been reworked in some shape or form. But perhaps "extended director's cut" would've technically been correct... as opposed to "theatrical director's cut"

Figures right after I go and buy the normal release. At least I only spent 8 bucks on it.

I just might double dip on this one. Loved this 4th Rambo movie so much that it ranked right up there with First Blood!!

Everything I've read says no, it'll be the original BD in the boxed set, which makes utterly zero sense to me.
