Perhaps my favorite line of the movie: "There were no utensils but there was Pepsi?"

Yeah, that's true, but mostly the wrong ones, and some with dreadful transfers like Bruce Almighty, and Dumb and Dumber certainly won't win any best BD awards, nor will Me, Myself and Irene.

I want Lemony Snicket's: ASOUE, Fun with Dick and Jane, Man on the Moon (Jim's best performance IMO)....

Ace Venture is on the way to BD, so that's awesome!

Bad movie, but I did love the line, "I learned the facts of life from watching The Facts of Life!"

Edit: It would be awesome to get a commentary from Carrey and/or Stiller, along with some new special features, but that's probably wishful thinking.

People always hate this film because of Jim Carrey's performance. It is completely different from everything he had done up to that point. If you really look at The Cable Guy properly, you will see that his performances in Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Man On The Moon, The Number 23, The Truman Show would never exist. It was because of The Cable Guy that Jim Carrey was able to prove to Hollywood that he was more than fart jokes and loud obnoxious gestures. It was the first time he actually had to act instead of just perform. He had to portray an abused and traumatized psychological profile. And that turned a lot of people away from the film. They didn't want to see him "delve."

Watch the film again with this in mind and I'm sure that you will both 180 your opinions.

I haven't seen this since the theatrical run.

I'll get it on Blu when the price is right.

I can handle a different type of Carrey performance. The problem with The Cable Guy is that it was another one of those lame psycho stalker types of films(i.e. Fatal Attraction, The Temp, The Crush, Single White Female). And Matthew Broderick's character wasn't exactly likable, so it made it hard to root for or against anyone.

I did really like that Jerry Cantrell song that played over the end credits. So at least something good came out of this movie.

I agree. I didn't like the movie much at all the first time that I saw it. I was 16 when the movie came out, and my family and I went down to Georgia to visit my aunt who lives there. My aunt and I were both big Jim Carrey fans from his other movies and his work in In Living Color. So, she and I went and saw this while I was there, and neither of us liked it very much.

But as others stated, it was a very different performance from his previous ones. And while I had heard this ahead of time, I still didn't know what to expect going into it.

I honestly didn't think I would bother ever seeing it again. Then later that summer I was hanging out with a good friend of mine. At this point The Cable Guy was playing in a second run theater (for like $1 or $2 per ticket). He hadn't seen it yet and wanted to. I really didn't have any desire to see it again, but since we had nothing better to do and the price was cheap, I went with him. I ended up enjoying it much more the second time around. I think seeing it the second time, after knowing what the movie was and not having other expectations of it, I was able to appreciate it more.

And it got better on future viewings. At some point I bought a used copy of the movie on VHS from Blockbuster, so I saw it a few more times that way.

In fact, during my senior year of high school, (graduated in '98) I went on a field trip with my enlish class to Medievil Times. In addition to our regular teacher, we had this sudent teacher/teacher in training helping teach the class, and he started talking about the Medievil Times scene from The Cable Guy when we were talking about the then-upcoming field trip. I mentioned to him that I had the VHS tape, so he had me bring it in and we actually watched that scene in class.

Despite having a pretty large DVD collection, for some reason I never did get around to upgrading this particular movie from that previous VHS tape, so I will likely get this on Blu-Ray when it comes out.
