Will this release have all the extras the previous release because I keep reading that it does not include the commentary that the previous release has can anyone confirm if this is the case I would like to know before I purchase this title?

My plans exactly. I hope to upgrade to a new TV later in the year, hopefully fall, more likely closer to Christmas. But I'm definitely doing something this year, so I dont mind getting my hands on these release to watch the 2D copies. At least on stuff I havent bought yet, like Cloudy.

Here is the cover art...
The case is see through, clear, not Blue, and the Blu-ray logo at top is a metallic Blue instead of silver. The insert is printed on plastic instead of paper. The back and spine are opaque, the front is partially opaque, partially transparent. There is an insert with sky and meatballs on it that adds to the 3-D effect for the case. The disc loads up on the Panasonic Blu-ray player, and the menus and previews are not in 3D. The film has 2 options on the same disc, play 2D Movie, and play 3D movie. I have no idea if they are separate encodes or if they just put both on the BD-50. I also don't know if it's region free. I didn't have a chance to watch much of it on the 3D set at work, but what I saw looked absolutely fantastic, in 2-D or in 3-D. Sound was DTS HD-MA 5.1, most if not all extras looked like they were carried over from the last edition. Price will be either $34.99 or $29.99 at Best Buy....I'm not sure yet. Our store had 7 in stock. This particular copy came with our Sony display materials. But it's the same as the UPC code on the ones we got in for sale that street officially on Tuesday. Disc loaded very slowly on the Panasonic 3D player, took several minutes. Also one strange thing I noticed, possibly a glitch....when I turned the subtitles on, it would only play back in 2D even when I selected 3D. I had to eject the disc and put it back in to get the 3D effect to come back on. Maybe it was an authoring errror, or maybe Sony didn't encode the subtitles in 3D. It could also just be the Panasonic needed a firmware update. Who knows. ![]() ![]() Last edited by that1guystudios; 06-19-2010 at 03:29 AM. |

Me too. I probably won't be able to afford a new TV this year (unless the job market makes a nice upturn) but I plan on stocking up on 3D titles like this one. I never purchased the 2D version released earlier this year so this is an easy purchase. The only real thing missing from that release is the commentary. Interactive Blu-Ray games are far more of a gimmick then 3D ever was and DVD and digital copies are a waste of plastic.
The movie itself is cute and funny. Definutely not a Pixar quality production (not even Cars quality) but Id say its definutely above average among animated titles from other studios. It will keep kids entairtained while leaving enough laughs to keep adults happy too. This is the first real 3D release. Monsters vs Aliens delievered a good 3D video presentation but botched the release in virtually every other aspect of release. Sony has finally delievered the kind of 3D release we were waiting for. Its affordable, backwards compatible, and (with the exception of the missing commentary) doesn't compromise from the 2D release in any aspect. Hopefully when Dreamworks, Fox, and Universal get around to releasing Coraline, Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and Monsters vs Aliens for regular retail releases they will follow Sony's lead. Bravo Sony ![]() |

Me too. The prices are actually not bad right now, but it's been just over a year since I bought a Panasonic 58" plasma TV and it can now be had for a grand less than I paid for it back in '09. The main reason to wait though is that there simply isn't much available in 3D right now.

I'd consider picking this up in lieu of the 2D version, because from what I can tell, this will play fine on a non-3D player and TV. However, from this site's own review, it looks like they dropped at least the commentary, and probably a few other special features as well, which is lame. I'll probably stick with the 2D version then, considering prices will probably plummet for it.
