Think of the 360 addon as a dry run to work out the bugs and give the software devs some extra time with it.

Move for PS3 will probably be the same deal, testing the waters, experimenting with those willing to pay for it.
Nah, the next gen isn't happening anytime soon (nor in the next year or two).

Their conference was one joke after another. More sad than anything else.

Next year I give it 50/50, in two years, it is guaranteed. Microsoft wants to be first again. Their head start in this gen is what kept them in the lead for so long. They aren't about to give that up, especially as the PS3 starts to bloom and 360 sales taper off compared to its early years. It will be easier for them to say PS3 was last generation, we don't care about it. We are the next generation of gaming.

I don't think developers or the worlds wallets are ready for any new consoles. MS have spent too much time and money on Kinect to effectively dump it in 12 months for a new console, even if it does incorporate the tech.

The current consoles are flexible and powerful enough to see through another few years.

Seriously, what else can a console do? They already out put HD graphics, surround sound, online gaming, online media, 3D, etc

There is no need for anything new anytime soon; all a new console would do is push out more polygons meaning more time and money for the developers; enough studios have gone bust in the last few years because of dev costs; they don't want a new console and the masses can't afford one either.

I completely agree with this. Its still too early for a new console from either Sony or Microsoft.

I totally agree. I've invested too much money in the PS3 and 360.... I really don't have the cash to fork over for a new system anytime soon.

Same here. Granted I wish more developers had the talent of Naughty Dawg, Guerrilla games, etc and put out games of that caliber but as it is there are more quality games than I can keep up with.. The visuals are fantastic and I'm still blown away every time I fire up Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Among Thieves, Killzone 2, Motorstorm. Plus I don't need to be blown away graphically for every game I play, I'm having a lot of fun with Modnation Racer right now

When the next consoles hit I hope for significant jump in abilities.. What I want is more destructible environments, permanent deformation of landscapes (racing games, etc), persistent bodies, debris (things that don't disappear after dying, being destroyed, etc), number of things on screen at one time increased. Physics that work on everything in the environment (obviously only important for certain types of games). For FPS's, more specific hit box detection and damages, shoot the upper thight, upper thigh actually deforms and affects the A.I.'s ability, etc.

Higher standard for audio as well in general (I want same production values in audio as the blockbuster movies get).

agreed. and with a new console, theyll have to make it more advanced. i think the next one should feature blu ray but i dont think m$ is ready for it or is admitting it to themselves.

That's the thing, they aren't dumping it. They will fully integrate the that tech into their new console. Don't think for a moment that Kinect or Move for that matter, isn't going to be a major part of the next gen consoles. Release the add-ons now, integrate later.

One thing that pissed me off about Microsoft is that they dropped almost all support for the Xbox as soon as the 360 came out. Talk about wasted investment. Meanwhile, the PS2 still lives on. I don't think MS will make the same mistake. The 360 will be supported for awhile after Xbox3 comes out.

What is there to improve? How about actual HD games rendered at 1920x1080 instead of the vast majority that are upscaled. The 360 is still limited to DVD storage. The graphics cards are now from 4-8 (depending on how you count) generations behind. There have been a lot of improvements in 5 years which is a millennium in computer hardware time.

Unless Kinect sparks a brand new interest in the 360 and exceeds all sales expectations you can bet the new box is coming. Sooner rather than later.

Reason for that is because MS never was able to turn a profit on the original XBOX. Sow it would have been pointless to continue supporting it.

With the graphics of RAGE and ID tech 5 being shown, and playable, on 360, this gen is going no where. What ID tech 5 can is do with the 360 is incredible. Those are THE best graphics I have ever seen. Bar none. It's amazing. This gen has years left in it. I'd say at the minimum, we get 4 years without the announcment of a 360 2/ PS4.

I can see only a tiny room for improvment. But those are just nit picks. I really don't see how it can look better than that. I really don't.

Well, people thought it couldn't get any better until Rage came along and proved them wrong. So, you can never count developers out (they can find new niches with the hardware).
