An owner who is nice enough to let someone borrow something should pay 25%? What kind of ridiculous logic is that? The borrower who ruined the disc should pay 100% of the cost to replace it, no question.

Situations like this are why I rarely lend things out to anyone. Too many items end up damaged and it's just not worth the hassle.

The reason I'd do that is because you lent the disc to them in the first place and so you still hold a bit of responsibility.

When lending them your disc you're putting it at risk of being damaged. You didn't have to lend it to them because it's yours and if you didn't lend it to them then it wouldn't have been stractched.

So my point still stands, you hold some of the responsibility because of the reasons above.

The simple act of lending/borrowing is not what necessitates that the disc be replaced. Replacement is necessary due to the damage caused by the borrower. The lending is correlational to the damage, not causational.

I don't loan my discs out for borrowing, but if I did and it came back damaged they would be buying me a new one.

My stepmom accidentally knelt down on the slipcover for my LOST Season 1 DVD set, and it's a hard plastic, not cardboard cover. Well she cracked it apart and just said 'sorry'. So now I have a set that's no longer in mint condition (how she got it in) and she didn't give a f about giving it back broken. I didn't even know what to say! I wanted to tell her to buy me a new one, but how do you tell your dad's g/f?

I'll be getting it on blu-ray eventually anyway now, but now I can't sell the old one

Think of it this way....if they were truly a friend, they would have offered to replace it. Most people we call friends really aren't.

This thread is quite funny.

* Seriously though, just buy another disc, and simply don't let her borrow no more discs from you in the future. She'll get the picture and you'd help her to become more conscientious in her life; so all the people around her, including yourself would benefit.

=> I'll give everything I own or not in this planet to anyone that wants it, and that's just the way I am.
And that is a fact.

In all instances refer to Ash. In any situation he has a quote that is appropriate. For instance in this case you grab your keys, toss the broken slipcover to her and say, "Yo, she-b****! Let's go!"

I only lend to a very few friends who are as anal about it as I am, and do remind them how anal I am at the time, one came back sealed, accidents happen, but real friends make it good. Others don't get anything though.

What would you do?
So... basically she stole from you, and you haven't flipped your lid yet?

Edited to add: At least she didn't take a big steamy deuce in your bathroom, that would have been unforgivable and require massive amounts of sanitation...

That thread was a classic and should have been stickied.

If someone did that to me they'd definitely have to buy me a new one and they'd never ever everer everest borrow ANYTHING from me again.

I just don't understand how anyone can treat something that's not theirs so poorly. It's desrespectful!
