...and a "review" from an 805 owner.

"Now the Denon 3805 I had before was a nice receiver and produced great sound, but when I turned this baby on I felt like someone took off the ear plugs. The massive clean power that came out was unbelievable! It is like I have new speakers, clearer than I have ever heard, I could litterally hear not just the music, but the person touching the strings and drums. For a note I was listening to Eagles Hotel California, DVD-Audio, set to THX-Music."

...you can argue that so and so brand is better than so and so. But to say the 805 wouldnt provide enough for the home theater listening experience?? right.
First of all, if you have an 805, I am sorry if I offended you. This was not an attack on the 805. I am trying to figure out if you are trying to sell me the receiver or the guy with the original post. Yes, the 805 will not provide his setup with the correct power, in my opinion. 110 watts is good per channel and can drive those speakers. But how clean is the Onkyo's power as compared to the 3808? Denon, and I do not own one, has some of the cleanest power sent out and the 3808 is a basic model for his setup.
Please do not use a Crutchfield catalog as a guide. The review does not tell you his speakers, room setup, etc.. Also, the specs are not as complete as they can be; ie, the DAC's, processing chips, etc.
If you are defending the Onkyo, then so be it. If you had the 875 or better up there for comparison, I would say it is possible adequate for his setup. Either way, whatever sounds best to him is all that matters, but lets give him a good starting point to look at.

Not to argue, but I think you're missing the point. While I agree he should go with a higher end unit (IMO maybe the Denon AVR-4380ci which retails for $2499), his budget is around $1,000.

no, dont have an Onkyo 805. Not even trying to say its the best reciever out there. I just didnt agree your view of 'anything under $1200 is suspect' look on things.

In all honesty, I get your point. Just dont 100% agree with it. But youre entitled to it. I was only providing the OP with a better quality reciever than the HTIB and he was already thinking about the 805 (post# 3) and the fact he didnt want to "go over $1,000 total" (post# 5).

My opinion, the 805 would be sufficient at that price range and is a great reciever.

(also, 130 watts RMS...not 110. )

Your right about the watts 130, my fault. Honestly, how do you buy a $10k projector(original list price), 120" screen and other goodies, and buy a sub $1000 receiver for your theater? He is asking our opinions, he is getting one. BTW, that Denon is a very nice unit. One of my local shops, ABT, has it on display here. They have it hooked up to some Def. Mythos speakers, it sounded awesome. I have a Pioneer Elite and love it, but the Denon's have a very full sound that is great for a nice theater.

Hey, I agree with you, Denon makes a dam good reciever. And I too also have a Pioneer Elite (TX81) reciever.

And yes, with a set-up like the OP's, he should get a kick ass reciever. I say go with the Yamaha RX-Z11. Thats a real MONSTER!

The money spent on video shouldn't matter too much when picking a receiver - it is more important to get a receiver that works well with his speakers. And while his speakers are nice, I don't think they would benefit much from a high end receiver. Later if he wants to upgrade the speakers, he could then upgrade the receiver.

Now you're talking. I hate to give up my Z1 (2 flagships ago), but no HDMI... so I'm waiting for tax time on the Z11.
