I wonder if people will start calling this the "true" sequel to Bioshock

Maybe not, no one knows the connections between the two.

I could have sworn IGN stated what year it was set in and said it takes place before the first 2 games.

The setting for BioShock Infinite may seem even more fantastic and technologically advanced than rapture, but it's set in 1912, years before the events of the first game

Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom is set a few years before Raiders, yet that's still considered the sequel

Visually looks like mashup of Tools of Destruction's planet Kerwan intro and little bits of Resistance 2 lighting, buildings and signage.

Looks like all it's own game to me. I'm definitely excited about this one. I wonder if it will have the same creepy atmosphere even though it will be sunny and (probably) dry instead of dark and wet. I like that Ken Levine is back involved with it. And to all the crap being talked about the second one, I just don't understand. I loved it as much as the first...maybe a little less.

Yes, it's true that it takes place in 1912 before the first two games but we still don't know exactly how they're linked together, if they are at all.

It's just me, but perhaps Columbia's founder might have something to do with Andrew Ryan and the creation of Rapture. Also, according to the trailer we see Elizabeth (the girl on the balcony with roses) trying to carry DeWitt with her powers. Does that mean they used her to create what would later on become Adam and Plasmids in BioShock 1?

But then again, Adam in BioShock can be harvested from sea slugs. However, sea slugs might not be the only source to gather Adam.

Just my predictions.

I love Bioshock! I fell in love with it's creepy atmosphere, its music, and its art deco style. But most importantly I fell in love with Rapture. I have faith in the people behind these wonderful games, but the blue sky and white clouds don't sell it for me. It's the last thing I won't in these games. This is ineveitable I suppose. I liked Bioshock 2, but Rapture wasn't it's self. It wasn't as alive and varried as in part 1. However, I don't think they should have given up on Rapture. It's a huge city, and there is no way we've seen it all. I hope down the road we can revisit Rapture with new ideas, and breathe the same life in it that it had in Bioshock 1.

That being said, I already feel the excitement. Like I said I love Bioshock, and as long as Columbia is as amazing as Rapture I will love it. Columbia is the selling point. If they get it right I'll love this game. It sucks we have to wait til 2012, though.

Edit:Based on what I've read so far from Ken Levine this game want be as imposing and disturbing.

This world of Columbia presents radical differences in scale from what you are used to. You’re not crawling through corridors on the ocean floor, claustrophobic with the weight of the ocean bearing down on you. Instead you find yourself navigating through huge environments, zipping around on Sky-Lines at eighty miles per hour and getting into firefights at ranges of two thousand yards.
I liked the crawling in corridor's and the weight of the ocean bearing down on you and the claustrophobia of it all. That's what sold the game for me. They really should have finished the story of Rapture then moved on to Columbia. Hopefully this isn't Bioshock 3, and one day we will get the final piece of Rapture's story. What's sad is we have to wait possibly twice as long now, because they deviated to do this. So we have to get through this before they can begin making Bioshock 3.

I've owned the 2nd one for months now but haven't played it - then again I don't usually play computer games until winter comes.

Oh, and PC Gaming rules!

Well obviously Kevin has a reason for doing a prequel. I for one am exstatic for this. It looks amazing.
