Default PlayStation Move game Sorcery still alive

The promising Move-enabled action adventure Sony showed off at E3 in 2010 is set to be unveiled, once again, to press next month, Sony told IGN.

"Yes, Sorcery is still in development," Sony's Eric Levine said. "We're very excited to show everyone how this PlayStation Move exclusive game is coming along."

There was concern the game had been canned after it failed to turn up at E3 this year. Nothing has been said of The Workshop's game since February, when the developer noted work on the game was "in full swing".

Eurogamer's Keza MacDonald came away relatively impressed when she saw the game in action last year.

"Sorcery is only slightly more than a concept demo at the moment, but it's clearly got the potential to be a more creative and accessible wizardry game than anything the Harry Potter licence has offered up so far. It's also evidence of that Move is squaring up strongly to face the competition," read her Sorcery preview.

If this was true

Quote:
inally, it’s worth noting that this is a tech demo… not an actual level from the game. As such, there were plenty of graphical glitches, camera problems and a cutesy art-style that’s apparently not representative of the finished product.
it'll be interesting to see what they've gone for.

Glad to hear. I've been anticipating this game for quite some time now. Would be nice to see it street in 2012.

I don't like the look of it. The levels seems quite empty. It looks more a PSN game than a full disc one in my opinion. I hope that I'm wrong with the final product.

I hope that they will implement online Duels (What HP fan hasn't wanted to redo that Harry/ Draco face off per example?) ... that could really make this game something special and a major selling app for the Move.

Otherwise, even if they do not add that, I'm really interested to start with and it might make me get the Move anyway

This game based on the PS Blog's video has real potential to be a fun game when utilizing the Move controller over a standard Six-Axis.

Combat seems decent enough but they're not convincing me there's much meat to the adventure gameplay between combat with this:

Quote:
PSB: How do the gesture-based puzzles fit into Sorcery?
BU: We don’t want you fighting all the time, partly because it’s a gesture-based game and you’d get tired. So we try to mix up the intense combat with puzzles to solve. The gestures are pretty simple: You mend things, move them around. It’s less a question of figuring out how to do something; you might see something you can get on top of, and you’ll wonder how you can get up there, what you can rearrange. They aren’t intense brainteasers, but it does change the pace in the overall game.

Big improvement on the initial showing:

[Show spoiler]

but still very inconsistent in detail, they've gone OTT with the rocky columns and the ground's too flat. With UE3 I'm not sure the framerate's going to get fixed up too.

Looks like it's got a release date. May 22, 2012.

Quote:
We are pleased to announce that one of the most highly anticipated titles for the PlayStation 3 home console and the PlayStation Move motion control peripheral, the fantasy spell-casting game Sorcery, will be available in stores in North America on Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012. The game is an action packed magical adventure where the PlayStation Move is your magic wand and only you, a sorcerer’s young apprentice, can harness the true power of magic to save this mystical realm from the darkness of the Nightmare Queen.

I've just finished that game and I really liked it. Its not a perfect game by any means, graphics are ok, story ok, level design ok but still very entertaining.

Glad to hear it. I have this game but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. Still trying to finish off Yakuza 4.
