A +1 for the LG 55LH90.

I paid about $1700 for mine back in April, so you should be able to talk someone down to $1500. After you get the right settings on the TV, it is as close to the Samsung 8500 that you'll get for over half the price. Definitely a most bang for your buck TV. Best of luck.

And +1 for LCD over plasma. My biggest hang up is burn in. I'll be damned if I am going to pay a ton of money for a TV, pause a movie or video game, and ruin my screen. Supposedly this is less of an issue these days, but still an issue. No thanks. But to each his own.

If you get the LG 55LH90 and are interested in some TV settings to try out, PM me and I can point you in the right direction. Hope that helps.

Even in your own quote you say very good blacks, why not excellent blacks? As I stated above with local dimming the lcd/led is the exception to the black levels, they actually have really good blacks.

As for my tv I have a pioneer kuro any fading, buzzing or any of the problems you mentioned with it???? No. My tv is still used as a refrence tv which all tv's are compared to. Yours? So don't tell me the woos of plasma.

From review hometheatermag.com
Sony BRAVIA KDL-52NX800 LCD HDTV-Price: $2,800 At A Glance: Edge LED backlighting • Excellent color and resolution • Non-uniform black level
Nuvision which is a high end tv.
NuVision Lucidium NVU55FX5LS LCD HDTV Price: $5,999 At A Glance: Good black level • Excellent detail • Vibrant color • Uneven screen illumination
Samsung UN46C8000 LCD 3D HDTVPrice: $2,800 At A Glance: 3D ready • Effective 2D-to-3D conversion mode • Fine contrast with solid blacks • Outstanding setup adjustments

Oh and one panasonic plasma review granted probably the best one being made right now.
Panasonic VIERA TC-P50VT25 Plasma 3D HDTVPrice: $2,600 At A Glance: Precise color gamut in THX mode • Near reference black level • Sparkling 3D—and 2D—performance

Hmm seems like lcd/led is right there with plasma. Nice try.

I agree that op wanted a lcd but many ppl pass on plasma of the problems of the past. IMO you can get a much better tv in plasma for the price. Lcd's have a full set of problems that are unique to them, no tv is perfect. Just got to pick what is important to you.
But do LED/LCD's have phosphor lag? No...

Everyone that says the LG 55LH90, why not the 55 C6300? I can get one on amazon for like $1,600. I'm probably going to wait till nov/december to pick one up, by that time there could be something better out and the prices will be low.

Full array LED backlit set with local dimming and a matte screen makes it a hands down winner over the glossy screen edge-lit set.

If Pioneer was still in the market for Plasmas, I'd hands down pick one up. It's sad that even years after they exited the market, they still have the best HDTV ever made

What I was referring to (plasma wise) is what the OP can get today, not years ago

I agree with everyone else, stay far away from edge lit LCD/LED. The back light bleeding in the corners is a major nuisance.
