Doing well my friend, how are you?

Yes, I wonder if the audio output priority is set to something other than multi-channel, because page 66 of the manual says that LPCM 2-channel will play through other outputs when something else is selected. That's about the last thing that I can suggest to him though. If this doesn't work, I'm out of ideas.

i'm doing well buddy getting ready to run out and get some dinner and perhaps watch a movie. on this situation, thus far, i'm with ya, i thing the setting of the priority to multichannel and making sure he has the interconnects connected correctly should do it (other than the analog speaker setup) but he should have 5 or 7.1 sound and it should be correct. that's why i told him to double check his cables. of course it interesting to hear him state that this has only happened on toy story.

I think on Toy Story it's possible that he had the 2-channel DTS selected and may not have realized it. As for Cars...well, that's what got me to thinking maybe the settings got changed somehow.

I'm going to run out and grab a bite as well. Have a good night solarrdadd!

O_V_N - sorry, but I've got to run. Hopefully our suggestions solved the problem for you. Feel free to PM me with any other questions.

The Audio Output Priority might be the cause, but I suspect not. It's true that the Priority output is the only one that gets multichannel while the others are limited to stereo downmixes. But, it doesn't sound like you are actually getting a two channel output.

You say there's audio present in the center channel, just not much of it. And, the test tones from the player are very weak in the center and the surrounds. Those symptoms suggest a problem with the player's calibration. The player tones will never be downmixed to stereo. If you have the channel levels set properly, you will get the same volume from each speaker when playing the tones. So, I'd suggest you play the tones and adjust the channel levels until they are all equal. If your receiver allows for analog channel level trims, it's better to set the output levels to 0 in the player and make the adjustments in the AVR. If not, you can do the trimming in the S550.
