I just watched this in HD on tv last night and it looks great. I can't imagine what it's gonna look like on Blu ray.

I'm a huge Cronenberg fan and Videodrome is my favorite film of his. I bought it twice on DVD and I'll gladly buy it again on Blu.

I gurantee you'll be able to get it for under $30, it's what 3 months before release?

Plus Criterion discs always retail for $39.99 so does that price surprise you at all?

no surprise just ridiculous is all prob the reason I don't own any Criterion DVDs either although I did almost buy Hoop Dreams once but it was like 22 bucks used. although you can find The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Criterion Blu for pretty cheap and if I remember right it was kinda reasonable when it came out 22 or 24 bucks if I remember right

Ah that explains it. I'm a big Criterion fan so I'm used to paying a bit more for their releases. One of the few companies that I will pay more than $20 for a release from, they do a fantastic job. I honestly think that it's worth the $35 to own this film on blu but I probably will just wait until I can get it cheaper (or wait for the awesome B&N 50% off sale they offer every few months).

It's too bad "Videodrome" didn't get released earlier. I was at a David Cronenberg autograph session and he had signed my copy of "A History of Violence" instead. Would have much preferred the former.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this... day one purchase for sure!

Criterion is puzzling me with this and House. They're trippy and silly and arbitrary, but they don't seem like normal Criterion fare. I'd prefer they put out more classics and less midnight movies, especially on bluray.

Them's fighting words!

David Cronenberg is one of the most consistent, intelligent and original directors of the last 30 years: a true auteur. If you classify his movies, especially Videodrome, under the header of 'trippy and silly' and not enough of a 'classic' than I would suggest a thorough investigation of his work, all of which belong in the Criterion library (Videodrome, The Fly, Dead Ringers, Crash, Existenz, Spider, A History of Violence, Eastern Promises).
