Like I said I am a Ritter fan, however those flashbacks and the complete lack of a cohesive story and no character development made it just not an option for me to return. I think the final death nail for me though was the final scene with the plane right before impact

Well this new update sucks as I'm a fan of Life Unexpected and believe it or not Gossip Girl. I really hope we get one more season out of Gossip Girl as they said they know an ending and that season 5 could possible be the last.

They are actually tomorrow, but don't forget My Generation, which is generally included along with the 2 you mentioned as the worst new shows of the season. I don't understand how all that crap is on Thursday nights, which is supposed to be TV's best night. I also don't understand how NBC has any faith in Outsourced, a show that largely relies on racist Indian jokes, over the terrific Parks and Recreation.

Fox Not Canceling Lone Star, Yet

I plan on watching it. I've heard it's a very light kind of show. I tend to prefer darker and more serious. But if this is at light as I've read it is, than I already have Chuck for that.

This review definitely makes it sound like there is some real potential here it's just not shown in the pilot. But I will be giving this atleast my typical rule of three and out.
Review: NBC's 'Undercovers'

On paper, the idea of NBC’s new spy drama “Undercovers” (which debuts Wednesday at 8 p.m.) sounds fantastic: producer JJ Abrams takes all of the elements that worked best on his old show “Alias” (spy missions in glamorous locales, sexual chemistry between two very attractive leads) and ditches the stuff that was so often frustrating (the convoluted mythology, Jennifer Garner drowning in her own angst).
In reality, “Undercovers” is disappointing. There’s potential there for a fun show, but when Abrams is co-writing (with Josh Reims) and directing - a combination that in the past has produced two all-time great pilot episodes in “Alias” and “Lost” - you expect more than potential.
The German-born Boris Kodjoe and British-born Gugu Mbatha-Raw play a pair of married, all-American former spies, Steven and Samantha Bloom, who now run a catering business together. It’s a safe, happy life, but also a boring one (neither can remember the last time they danced together), so when CIA agent Carlton Shaw (Gerald McRaney) shows up to lure them out of retirement - and to work as partners for the first time - they gladly accept the offer.
"We're about to start doing the thing we stopped doing so we could have a normal life together,” says Samantha. “It's a little weird."
"Well,” counters Steven, “maybe our normal life could use some excitement."
There’s some excitement to be found in “Undercovers,” much of it from Mbatha-Raw. Abrams likes to write for strong women. The execution of that doesn’t always work out (see Kate on “Lost,” or Olivia for the first year or so of “Fringe”), but Mbatha-Raw’s Samantha is sexy and confident and, a time or three, funny, and very much lives up to what Garner brought back in the early ‘00s.
Kodjoe has some good light moments, but is maybe a little too laid back. Everything seems to come easily to him - even a fight scene where he’s dangling off a Paris rooftop - and he’s most effective when playing straight man to new handler Bill Hoyt (Ben Schwartz), who reveals himself to be a slobbering Steven Bloom fanboy. (Marveling at a story from Steven’s file, Hoyt asks, “Are you a robot? Are you a half-robot?”)
“Undercovers” is, simply, a show that does many things reasonably well, but nothing spectacularly. “Chuck” does both the romance and comedy better (this show’s attempt to use the made-up word “sexpionage” as a running gag falls flat), “Human Target” has cooler fights (considering that Abrams is directing, the mediocre action is probably the most disappointing part of “Undercovers”), etc.
It’s worth noting that Kodjoe and Mbatha-Raw are both black, in roles that didn’t require actors of any particular ethnicity. But that piece of color-blind casting would be worth celebrating more if “Undercovers” was better than just the genial time provided by the pilot.
Again, there are pieces here that could lead to something much stronger. (To get back to “Chuck,” that show needed to get to its second season before everything clicked.) The two leads have nice chemistry, Schwartz and McRaney both provide some nice light moments in support, and there’s a hint of some bigger reason for the Blooms’ reactivation that may please viewers who like a little mythology with their standalone missions.
But where the Blooms find that their first mission together has brought the passion back into their lives (Steven tells Samantha, "Watching you these past few days - it reminded me of you”), I mostly felt the pleasant ennui the two have in their catering life. Everything seems like it should be fantastic, but I wanted more.
wow. Looks like The undercovers wont be going anywhere except death. It premiered worse than Chuck!
I watched the premiere a little bit ago. It was everything the reviews led me to believe. I just felt like I got everything I need in the romantic spy department from Chuck, so while I will give it more of a shot next week, with these ratings I don't think it will go anywhere. So what do you think the odds of Undercovers being canceled increases the chances that Chuck stays?
To be honest, I think it actually increases Chucks chance for at least Back 9. It's cheaper.
Yeah that was part of my thinking as well, either the back 9 at the least or a renewal for next year. It doesn't look like many of their pilots have been working out so far. And I'm REALLY hoping their comedy pilots fail so they can bring back P-Rex much earlier than January, that is terrible, but not as terrible as Outsource looks.
What Will Fox and ABC Replace ‘Lone Star’ and ‘The Whole Truth’ With?

Perhaps Fox hopes that clear of the premiere week hoopla, more will check it out. I could see it going up a little, but from a 1.3 that’s not saying much. I think the extra week is just to give Fox more time to think about what to put there instead. In the event that Lone Star has an epic rebound, all the speculation will be moot. But until then…
What Should Fox Do?
It’s easy to say all other Fox shows are options, but realistically they are not. Fox isn’t going to screw with its Sunday night line up and based on one week of data there’s no chance it will mess with its Tuesday night or Wednesday night line up either. That rules out Glee, Hell’s Kitchen and the new sitcoms and leaves you only with only the Thursday or Friday shows or perhaps bringing Lie To Me off the bench sooner (its schedule to premiere Wednesdays beginning November 10).
I don’t see Fox moving Bones. House and Bones would be an awesome combo in my opinion as a viewer, but as a scheduler it’s more complex. Fox’s goal with Thursdays was to improve Thursdays, and last year it did. Bones proved to be a pretty decent anchor for the night and isn’t lead-in dependent. Of course Fox could always move Bones to Mondays at 8pm and switch House to 9pm, but that effectively is throwing in the towel on Thursdays. I don’t see that happening.
Fringe is lead-in dependent and would likely benefit from the move. I know Fox loves it some JJ Abrams as much as the next guy, but I’m not sure if it really is interested in propping up Fringe.
It’s easy to say that Fox favors Fringe over Human Target, but it might simply be the case that Fox was looking at Thursdays and happy with the relative year over year improvement last year and just didn’t want to mess with it.
It seems easier to simply move Human Target to Mondays at 9pm and see how it does. If you move Fringe, you are screwing with the schedule on three nights, at least if you assume Lone Star would initially move to Fridays displacing a Friday show that would likely move to Thursdays if you just moved Fringe. That’s a quite a bit of early jockeying.
Of course, Lone Star as a lead-in isn’t going to help The Good Guys much, but The Good Guys was not destined for greatness (and I can’t see any chance of it moving to Monday nights). If you’re going to throw in the towel, throwing it in on Friday makes more sense than Mondays or Thursdays. And whether you flip-flop the time slot for The Good Guys doesn’t matter much.
My guess is Human Target takes Lone Star’s slot. A case can be made for Lie to Me but if you do that, you’re screwing with the Wednesday schedule beginning in November.
What should ABC replace “The Whole Truth With”?
Much less complexity for ABC than Fox.
It won’t happen but I’d love to see a “Primetime: What Would ABC Do?” that focuses on the very question of what to replace The Whole Truth with!
Realistically, Primetime: What Would You Do? should be in the running as a replacement even if it isn’t the sort of move that would be popular in a Hollywood filled with writers and producers who feel entitled to do scripted drama at 10pm. Those same writers and producers whined incessantly about The Jay Leno Show…only to make ratings dreck like The Whole Truth and The Forgotten.
Still, I don’t see Paul Lee giving Hollywood the finger this early in his tenure. I’m going with the consensus pick of Body of Proof.
