I really want that one too, but I need to know if it plays in region A in the US and if it has all the same supplements and features (I think the answer is yes on both issues). That would be a very good deal to buy it from Amazon.co.uk at its current price, which is about $40 less than the price at Amazon.com (US).

For those of you who like to preorder upcoming blu-ray titles, which ones (with a future release date) do you have on active preorder? The preorders can be from any retailer. Don't include any orders you canceled.
Feel free to post updates. Maybe this could become an ongoing thread. Please post here only if you like to preorder or have questions about preorders. (Note that this thread is not to be confused with the Preorder Watch thread: https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-mo...der-watch.html) As you'll see, I'm something of a blu-ray junkie. Nary a week goes by without at least one title of some sort arriving at my door. My current preorders are To be released on February 15th: -All the President's Men (Can't wait for this landmark film, and in a digibook form to boot.) -Network (One of my all-time favorite films, I had to snag this on day one, even though I don't think the extras will be any different from the DVD I already have; I wish they had done a digibook for this one.) -Rain Man (Been looking forward to this classic 80s film) February 22nd: -Sweet Smell of Success (I'm sure this is going to look luscious with its sleek black & white photography. I've grown to be really fond of the techniques popular with films from this period in history, the late 50s and early 60s) -Senso (A colorful, theatrical Italian classic drama from the mid 1950s, this is a blind buy that intrigued me after I saw Martin Scorcese's My Voyage to Italy) March 1st: -Bambi (Add one more classic Disney animated feature to my collection. This is one of the most memorable in my opinion and one of my favorites from Disney. Long anticipated.) -127 Hours (One of my top films of 2010. James Franco is unforgettable here and his Oscar nod was very much deserved. He and the film remain intriguing despite the simple story and (in its own way) minimalist style March 8th: -Excalibur (A blind buy that I've always been intrigued by. Should be interesting to see the early 80s special effects, so different than today's CGI) -Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Also from the early 1980s this animated film is another blind buy that I placed without hesitation when I saw it was directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Every work from him is a masterpiece and I definitely want more of his work in my collection.) March 15th: -Yi Yi (A blind buy that everyone keeps raving about. A relatively recent Japanese drama about life, basically, but obviously crafted in a way that resonates with viewers. I'm quite looking forward to this.) -Au Revoir le Enfants (A superb film that I've been looking forward to owning for years. It's pretty much impossible to not be moved somehow by this mid-80s film.) -The Fighter (Another of my top films from last year, filled with excellent writing, nice directing and top notch acting, including that of one of my all-time favorite actors, Christian Bale, who is very much overdue for some Oscar recognition. It also has the wonderful Melissa Leo, who also deserves some Oscar love. Mark Wahlberg has never been better.) March 22nd: -The Times of Harvey Milk (I nearly purchased this incredible bio-documentary about a very important figure in civil rights, made in the 80s -- lots of 80s films on this list for some reason -- a couple years ago. Then it went out of print and I thought I missed out. Now it's coming to Criterion Blu. Very pleasant surprise. Should look nice sitting next to my copy of Milk) March 29th: -Soylent Green (Stylish sci-fi. though in a very early-1970s kind of way, with a memorable story about overcrowding and food shortages in the future) April 5th: -Taxi Driver (My favorite Scorcese film finally arrives on Blu -- I hope.) -A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (I consider this one of Steven Spielberg's best sci-fi films and love the allusions to the style of his friend Stanley Kubrick, who originally was to have directed it.) April 12th: -White Material (Yet another of my top films that played in US theaters in 2010. Claire Denis here made a memorable film about a sensitive subject. Isabelle Huppert is wonderful as always, as is Isaach de Bankole. -Le Cercle Rouge (Blind buy of a respected Jean-Pierre Melville crime drama. I liked his Army of Shadows quite a bit, so I have confidence I'll enjoy this one too. And I really like the cover graphics.) April 19th: -Kes (One of Ken Loach's most respected films, though it's a blind buy for me. I tremendously liked his The Wind that Shakes the Barley of a few years ago and Looking for Eric, more recently. I'm really looking forward to this one.) -The King's Speech (one of my honorable films from last year. Colin Firth is wonderful and deserves his predicted Oscar win (you should also check him out in A Lonely Man, from 2009). The film is, in many ways, less about a monarch than about life obstacles many of us can relate to, which is why, I believe, it has become so popular with audiences. April 26th: -Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (Another blind buy. Since the film is from Terry Gilliam, whose work I very much like, I'm taking a chance on this film.) -Blow Out (Yet another blind buy. The plot sounds interesting and it would be nice to have more Brian DePalma and John Travolta in my collection.) May 24th: -Papillon (Nice to see this 1970s classic coming to Blu-ray, as I figured it would some day. Digibook too.) September 27th: -Star Wars: the Complete Trilogy (As a kid, I was a huge fan of the original trilogy and I want the prequels as well (even though I haven't watched all of them). It happens to come out exactly on my birthday. What a wonderful gift for myself.) Also on preorder: -The Outlaw Josey Wales (Finally. Long, long anticipated. One of Clint Eastwood's best films as both a director and actor.) -Black Swan (Another of my 2010 top films. Natalie Portman deserves the Oscar, and Darren Aronofsky deserved his Oscar nod.) -True Grit (2010) (One more of my top films from last year with Joel and Ethan Coen in top writing and directing form.) -To Kill a Mockingbird (Very much looking forward to Gregory Peck in this classic.) -National Lampoon's Animal House (Nice to have some silly, raunchy laughs sometimes, and this classic should deliver.) -American Graffiti (One of George Lucas' early films, waxing nostalgic.) -The Birds (As a kid, this Alfred Hitchcock film terrified me; it still makes me a little uneasy at times.) So, what's on *your* list of preorders? ![]() Last edited by BluPix; 02-10-2011 at 12:53 AM. |

Cool. Looks like the complete Star Wars is the most popular title (go figure). Every other post here mentions it.
![]() So, tell me, RyRyMcNizzy, do you already own the current blu-ray of Memento or will the 10th Anniversary edition be your first? I was thinking of buying that upcoming 10th Anniversary one from Lionsgate but wasn't sure since I have the current one from Sony. I'll probably wait for a review and a little price drop. I know it will have a couple more extras and the a.v. quality should be better since it's to be based on a restored print. Thing is, Memento is easily one of the most upgraded films in my collection. First, there was the standard DVD. Then came a special edition DVD with special packaging and menus (quite interesting, actually). Then, the first blu-ray disc. Then the well-done steelbook blu of just a few short months ago. Now this new and probably improved blu-ray. ...Then, down the road, there will probably be a collector's item of the new Lionsgate blu-ray. Distributors must regard Memento as a little cash cow. The gift that keeps on giving, with each new reissue. But I'm not complaining too strenuously. |

AI, Taxi Driver and What Dreams May Come. I did have Memento on pre-order, but canceled it when placing the Taxi pre-order. I'm going to wait on that one until the holiday season and get it on the cheap.
As for Star Wars, I'm going to wait for the first 3 films from the late 70s-early 80s to be released individually. I have no desire to clutter my shelves with the more recent prequels. Same goes for the Indy flicks. Georgie has definitely lost his edge, imo. I haven't cared for anything he's done since the 80s. And bring on Willow already! Maybe instead of the SW prequels? ![]() . . . . |
