I voted for The Hills Have Eyes...
Czar I wish ya would have done something like Best Horror Remake since 1990 or something, the Thing is obviously going to dominate the poll. I would have voted for The Thing but it doesn't need anymore votes and I have never seen the original, so I cant say its truly the best remake, even though its a favourite movie of mine.

Favourites: TCM, The Fly, The Thing, Dawn of the Dead and Halloween 2

Worst: Ring, Day of the Dead, Prom Night and The Hills Have Eyes 2

I have no issue with remakes I have enjoyed many more than I disliked and I don't let them take anything away from the original.

Didn't care for Funny Games remake eh Czar? I liked it, was pretty creepy in a real kind of way.

Oops, I voted without seeing The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That version is definitely my favorite and would've gotten my vote. You did miss the 2006 version on this, which I also thought was awesome.

I really liked the new F13 and MBV, and ended up voting for MBV. I think seeing it in an awesome theater with 3D pushed it over the edge for me.

Did't see it on your list, but the '78 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers would be high up on my list also. Probably higher than The Fly.

And Elvis, come on. The Fly is not junk. The Hills Have Eyes is not junk. And while I'm not a big fan of sprinting zombies Dawn of the Dead is not junk. And what can I say about TCM. At least I found out that Gunnery Sergeant Hartman didn't actually die in Full Metal Jacket, just went a little(more) crazy.

Oh, I'll give you the J-horror remakes, none of them touch the originals.

edit: Just saw Invaion of the Body Snatchers on your list.

distant 2nd, 3rd & 4th...The Blob, Dawn of The Dead & The Fly.

IMO...the rest of them have been pretty crappy!!

So CZAR, here's the million dollar question...did you watch The Thing yet? It is the greatest horror remake ever, and maybe the best horror movie ever in my book...right behind the original Halloween of course.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I thought it was better then the original one. The original TCM was horrible imo.

Followed by;

The Hills Have Eyes
My Bloody Valentine 3D
The Last House on the Left

The Thing was a great remake for it's time. However it really shows it's age with the cheesy 1980's special effects.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is my personal favorite and I think it will stand the test of time better overall.

Blasphemy! Rob Botin's effects are legendary...and probably some of the most disturbing effects I've ever seen. I'm glad The Thing was made in the 80s. CGI would've ruined the effect imo.

I agree, nothing beats real creature effects. Unfortunately, it's a dying art.
