Blanca Guerra and Jodorowsky in Blu? - YES PLEASE

Blanca Guerra is the best mexican actress along with Diana Bracho (she's not popular in the USA, but she did make a movie with Harvey Keitel named "Dreaming of Julia AKA Cuban Blood").

It's sad what happened to Jodorowsky now
He reads your future... ah yes, not a joke.

You can follow him in twitter @alejodorowsky

Waiting for El Topo....

HM and F&L can stay in DVD, thank you

Doing Justice to Santa Sangre: the first in a series of blog articles from Severin on their forthcoming release of the film.

Looks like it will be an incredible release!

Well, Severin have their work cut out for them. The UK anchor bay dvd release was already pretty marvelous, for what it was.

Oh crap! A Alejandro Jodorowsky film on blu-ray? First time I heard about this.

Question, as I rarely do this (I myself don't care for questions like this),

if I like, no love, The Holy Mountain & El Topo, will this be a good blind buy?

Santa Sangre is a bit more mainstream than El Topo and The Holy Mountain. This does NOT mean that Santa Sangre is mainstream... hehe.

I love Santa Sangre, but both El Topo and The Holy Mountain rank higher on my list.

It has Jodorowsky written all over it, the story is cool and the violence is really over the top. So yeah; just buy it!

Well, if we all buy Santa Sangre and show that there's a demand for Jodorowsky's movies, we'll probably see his other movies on Blu-ray as well.

Default Final specs from Severin:

Final specs from Severin:

Quote:
Very few releases of older films these days squeeze as much bonus material onto a little shiny disc (or two in the case of the DVD) as we’re packing onto Santa Sangre. More detail on the individual items below can be found in our recent blog posts, “Doing Justice To Santa Sangre“, but here is the full list of specs for the 1/25/11 release:

EXTRAS:
• Forget Everything You Have Ever Seen: The World Of Santa Sangre: Exclusive Feature Length Making-Of Documentary Featuring All-New Interviews with Director/Co-Writer Alejandro Jodorowsky, Stars Cristobal Jodorowsky, Adan Jodorowsky, Blanca Guerra, Thelma Tixou, Sabrina Dennison, Elenka Tapia & Teo Tapia, Co-Writer Roberto Leoni, Soundtrack Composer Simon Boswell and Tattoo Designer Sergio Arau.
• Audio Commentary with Jodorowsky and Journalist Alan Jones
• Deleted Scenes with Director Commentary
• For One Week Only: Alejandro Jodorowsky: Channel X Produced 1990 British Documentary Featuring Interviews with Jodorowsky, Dennis Hopper, Marcel Marceau, Moebius, Omar Sharif, and others
• Goyo Cárdenas Spree Killer: Documentary on the Real Life Inspiration For Santa Sangre
• On Stage Q&A With Jodorowsky
• Jodorowsky 2003 Interview
• Simon Boswell Interviews Jodorowsky
• Blink Jodorowsky Short by Simon Boswell
• “Close Your Eyes” Simon Boswell Music Video
• Echeck Adan Jodorowsky Short Film With Optional Commentary
• US and Japanese Trailer
• English, Italian and Spanish Language Tracks
• Closed Captions for the Hearing Impaired
The audio commentary is the same as the Anchor Bay UK disc:

Quote:
[Alejandro Jodorowsky] was recently in New York for a retrospective of his movies (except Tusk) at the Museum of Art & Design and he sat down for us to discuss his experiences on SS — of which he is incredibly proud but which sadly he can no longer watch because it features his late son Teo. For completists the disc will also include the commentary we recorded with Jodo in 2003...

I must admit, in the risk of losing cool points here, that I strongly believe Santa Sangre is Jodorowsky's best film to date. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't turned off by the more truly surrealistic works of El Topo and especially The Holy Mountain. In fact, I very much consider both those films works of art that are rightfully commended by its fans. However, they aren't films I see myself wilfully revisiting often, hence, I don't really care to purchase them on BD if/when they become available (unless they're on the cheap). I see those films as great one-night-stands, basically. I've seen better surrealistic works with better replayability factors, in my honest opinion. Santa Sangre, on the other hand, is a film I will gladly own a copy of on BD. I just see it as Jodorowsky's most complete film that still retains his gift of surrealism (don't be misled by others' claims that Santa Sangre is almost mainstream and lacks surrealism, because none of those claims are true). Excellent to see this BD treated with uber respect and jam-packed with quality special features. My one worry is that none of the specs mention the audio presentation and whether or not it has lossless audio. We'll see but I have my pre-order up.

You're definitely not alone in that opinion. "Cool points" be damned.

And don't forget Fando y Lis. Perhaps it ain't as good as El Topo, THM or Santa Sangre but it's a pure "El Jodo" flick (although it's based on a play written by Fernando Arrabal). Besides FyL was his first feature length film.

BTW I'd love to see "La cravate" on HD as well.
As some poster mentioned above, IF "Santa Sangre" sells well, then it'll be more likely to see all those Jodorowsky's films being released on BD.

Santa Sangre is clearly Jodorowsky's best film. I love the others, also, but they are more experiments than completely developed films.

I was really hoping for El Topo, but any Jodorowsky film in HD is very welcome!

It did take 37 years for El Topo to come out on home video in the U.S., so I guess we can wait a while for the Blu

And what about Abelcain, aka Sons of El Topo? Rumor is Jodo finally found financing

Thats the last I heard. He dropped his other project which sounded awesome, King Shot because I believe funding and now working on what now is called Son of El Topo, not Sons anymore. Hope to see something new from him.

This is about the best news I could have possibly gotten. This movie is AMAZING! I never thought I'd be able to own it on Blu-ray.

Pre-ordered without hesitation. Thank you TONS OP! You just made my year.

Personally I'd rather have The Holy Mountain or Fando y Lis over El Topo, but like you said any Jodorowsky is very welcome.

Edit: Finally I have a worthy replacement avatar.

Normally I'd agree with you about a price drop, but this one is a necessary expense, IMO. Especially considering the fact that they're remastering it just for the Blu-ray release and adding 'tons of extras'.

The only other movie I bought at full price on release day was Akira, and I don't regret that because it ended up being a limited run and I own the awesome booklet with it! Not a big fan of paying full price, but Santa Sangre deserves every penny of what they're asking.
