I enjoyed the film and think it is very well made...but I don't know that its worthy of the Criterion Collection. Don't get me wrong, its a very good film, it just doesn't have that 'important to the history of film-making' vibe to it for me when I watch it.

I thought it was ok. There were some good moments, and the story is interesting. I was most distracted by the constantly shifting storytelling dynamics, most notably the Paris sequence which feels more like a student film that was inserted into the movie than part of CCOBB. It was a film that needed a few more rewrites, IMO. Cate Blanchett is impossible to hear during the Hurricane scenes.

I liked it too, and the BD is one of the best, as are the supplements on disc 2.
It's certainly not a movie I give a spin every day, but once in a while it's great to watch one of those really long movies. IMO it helps totally immerse yourself into the story and characters. ![]() I'd give it Movie: 4/5 PQ: 5/5 AQ: 5/5 Extras: 5/5 |

Of course it makes sense. Those of us who hate it(well, me at least) think it's a gorgeous movie with powerful performances just a horrible story. He ages backwards, other than having him fall in love with Blanchett, there's so much more they could've done with that and didn't.

really? you've never seen a movie that had great direction, some pretty great performances, and had a solid atmosphere but just... didn't like it? that's what he meant by his statement. i've had it happen a few times, this being one of those cases.

This belongs in this thread! VVVV
https://forum.blu-ray.com/movies/132...e-dislike.html ![]() I agree with most though. Great movie for one viewing but I have zero motivation to ever watch it again. I have the exact same feelings toward Fincher's Zodiac. |

I liked it allot thought it was one of Fincher's best movies. Fight Club it isn't but then again were you really expecting Fight Club? The movie is long and slightly slow at points but so is life and if you are telling someones entire life story its bound to be boring in spots.
On a side note take Schindler's List, great movie maybe Spielberg's best but not exactly something I watch regularly. I think I've seen it twice just too hard to watch. For me Benjamin Button is sorta like that it isn't something that has the re-play value of say Fight Club. But that doesn't mean that it isn't a good/great movie. Good lighting, great costumes, accurates sets and props, good acting, good camera work and editing. Well made. The story is separate. The story is before they make the film. I have enjoyed movies that have great stories, but are poorly made films. The acting was iffy, the lighting was weak, the costumes were wrong for the era etc. Poorly made film, but the story was so intriguing that I enjoyed it. |
