From what I remember it was a signal converter, could have been an RCA/XLR converter. I vaguely remember that the device in question compensated for a 4 db drop (or some other kind of signal loss) in signal strength that was inherent in going from analog preouts on receiver to XLR inputs on the external amp.

I hope this makes sense... I was also thinking that the ZONE 2 preouts on my receiver could act as the output to the power amp so that I can toggle between receiver power and amplifier power to switch between movies and music.
yeah, that sounds about right, what you are talking about and what i asked. as for your receiver, if you have zone outputs in RCA and if you can control the volume from the receiver to said zone with the receiver then yes, you can put an amp between the receiver and speakers to get external amplification. if you wanted to keep the speakers for use in your multichannel setup you would need to get a switch for speakers (sort of an a/b switch like this one http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...t=1#largeimage) so that one pair of L&R cables coming from the receiver go in as one input and one pair of L&R cables coming from the external amp go in as one input and you simply switch between them that way you can use the same pair of speakers and receiver you have now for it's normal use and for external amp use.

hope that made sense and hope it helped.

Yes, you are correct. The RCA/XLR converter is discussed in detail in post #1 of the Behringer thread. It is called the Samson S-Convert. I have two of them. Besides converting, it does level matching. Samson may have discontinued the S-Convert. There are other companies that make similar products and are availavle in most pro shops. You may also find the Samson on Ebay.
