we'll see what the PQ is like when it comes out and i'm hoping for lossless audio, since even WB is doing that for older classics like Mutiny on the BOunty!

either way, even if the PQ doesn't work out the content is so compelling. i mean the title, john wayne, and the sheer fact that he's so badass in this one =)

Paramount has been the worst next to Disney when it comes to catalog titles on Blu ray.
Agreed. Paramount needs to wake up and smell the roses, or even the coffee. Other major studios are now producing brilliant transfers to Blu-Ray of their catalog classics and now acknowledge that classic catalog releases actually sell quite well thank you. Hopefully John Wayne's original True Grit will change their minds as well. In the end it is all up to us, the consumer. If we purchase, they will take notice; encouraged by us, in turn Paramount will most likely respond with more Blu-Ray classic catalog releases... quality matters, though.

Default Cover Art Change ?

According to Best Buy.com and DVDEmpire this seems to be the cover art. Looks to possibly have a slipcover. Looks like it won't be that bad looking cover art after all. This seems more true to the film.

I like this new art much better. The gold bd label is nice. It has to have a slip from the looks of it.

I'll wait for the price to drop as I'm not really a fan of Wayne.

I was on the Walmart website today and they have a different cover. That makes 3 that I've seen. I do like the cover you've posted though, that's the one on the Target website also.

The Walmart cover is at least still better than the first cover that was presented (filtered, difused and waxy looking one) We'll have to wait and see which ones arrive. Sad there are no early reviews yet.

Anyone see a review yet? In a lot of cases it isn't a good sign if no review copies were sent out.

I wonder if there is a production issue or something. Still not "shipping soon" on amazon.com. Does anyone else have a shipping notification yet?

Mine shipped out Friday and I should have it tomorrow... but I have that issue with amazon.com all the time with my PRIME release date delivery. Many items will ship out Sunday to arrive Tuesday and it seems their computer system just holds the orders up. It is dodgy esp this time of year for sure.

I won't open mine until I get some word of mouth on the transfer.

My wife blew me away the other day when I was talking about seeing the trailer for the new one. She said she'd never seen the original?!?!? I remember being a child and watching this in a walk in theater. This was back when it was a big thing to go to a walkie Anyway, guess I'll add this to my que on Netflix and see how it looks. Like Clint Eastwood, Wayne usually makes it to my dvd collection. So I'm sure he'll make it to my blu-ray collection too
