As far as releases go, we'll get a regular Deathly Hallows Part 1 release in either March or April. We'll either get the Ultimate Editions of Phoenix and Prince right before the theatrical release of Part 2 or the home video release of Part 2 in the fall.

I would assume to look for Ultimate Editions of Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2 to be released sometime in 2012, along with probably a boxset that contains the Ultimate Editions of each film in one, self-contant box.
Totally agree. Although Deathy Hallows Part 1 is part one of a two part story, it stands on its own as a separate entry... until the last scene when we are brought back to the reality that the story will be continued. Very good strategy by Warner to split the final book into two, but IMHO a stroke of artistic genius - gives the writers, actors and audience the additional time to savor the real essence of the JK Rowling conclusion. It would not work as one film as well as it will as two.

i wouldn't mind the movies being on 2 separate disc's much like LOTR extended versions.

i would mind if i had to buy parts 1 & 2 separately.

If this follows the Goblet of Fire trend, which was released the exact day, but 5 years ago, I can see a March 8th release. But, is that way too early? It is expected in March though, according to dvdizzy.com

I'll pay up to $35 to buy them together, hopefully as a 4 disc set that includes DVDs for each movie but will probably have to settle for getting each half of the movie for $20 each.

So by now it is beyond doubt that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” will attract the passionate, the curious and the nostalgic in large numbers. And they are likely to be pleased.

I'd like at some point to see a Blu-Ray release, that blends both Part 1 and Part 2 seamlessly. It'd be an awesome experience, watching it in it's full, true form!
