Ok and now for round 3 of Dead or Not Dead.........

LOCKE & KEY: the high-profile horror pilot, which Fox passed on, is being shopped to cable networks - both premium and basic - by 20th TV's cable division Fox 21. The instant interest stems from the fact that Locke & Key is a pre-sold title as it is based on Joe Hill's graphic novel.

That's good as I always thought this would make a better cable show then network.

I bet SyFy takes a look at it. That type of show seems to fit their current schedule.

'Locke & Key' To Screen At Comic-Con
Quote:
With its gigantic promotional platform, Comic-Con has become the place for TV studios and networks to introduce their new genre series to fans through screenings of their pilots and panels with creators and cast. But showcasing pilots that didn't go to series is unprecedented. It will happen this year with Fox's Locke & Key, a suspense thriller based on the graphic novel by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. A Locke & Key session will be held July 22 at 10:30 AM and will include a screening of the pilot, followed by a panel discussion featuring Hill, Rodriguez, the pilot's writer/executive producer Josh Friedman and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Behind the event is the publisher of the Locke & Key comic, IDW Publishing. IDW asked the pilot's producer, 20th Century Fox TV, for permission, and with the studio's blessing, it moved to book space for the screening. Because the convention is so packed, there was some juggling involved, so the screening will be in Room 8, and the panel next door in Room 9. "This one-time-only screening of the entire pilot will show you just what a void there will be on your TVs this fall," IDW's ad materials say.

Locke & Key, directed by Mark Romanek and starring Miranda Otto and Nick Stahl, was one of the highest-profile pilots this past season. It was given an early pilot order and originally envisioned as a summer series before it was switched to fall consideration. Despite its great pedigree and top auspices involved, the pilot didn't make the cut at Fox, and, after shopping the show to cable networks, the studio, faced with mounting costs of keeping the production alive, decided to pull the plug while signing Friedman in an overall deal. With rare exceptions (the failed Aquaman pilot was made available on iTunes), all pilots that don't go to series die a quiet death and are rarely shown to the general public. While IDW will no doubt use the the footage to drum up interest for the next chapter in the comic book series, it will be interesting to see what kind of reaction the pilot will get. Can the power of the Comic-Con crowd make network chiefs change their mind?

I have absolutely no idea what 95% of that is, with the exception of knowing what All My Children and SVU are but having never watched either.

It's clear the producers think the pilot is good enough to get a deal on some channel. In a cable universe with hundreds of mediocre programs, this show might still have a chance.

'Locke and Key' Pilot From Carlton Cuse Set at Hulu

Quote:
The IDW comic adaptation landed at the streaming service in a competitive situation.
Hulu is giving IDW comic book favorite Locke and Key a stab.

The streaming service has handed out a pilot order to the popular Joe Hill property with Carlton Cuse set to serve as showrunner, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Locke & Key is a horror/ fantasy series that revolves around three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.

Hill is set to pen the script for the hourlong pilot. Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel, The Strain, Jack Ryan) will exec produce alongside Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange) and Lindsey Springer. Cuse will serve as showrunner, while Derrickson will direct the IDW Comics drama.

The Hulu pilot order comes six years after Fox teamed with prolific producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci as well as Steven Spielberg and Amblin to adapt the beloved property. IDW CEO Ted Adams and IDW Entertainment president David Ozer as well as Hill will serve as exec producers.

IDW packaged the project with the goal of securing a straight-to-series order for the property. The package was taken out to bidders, including Netflix, HBO and FX, last month.

Fox previously attempted to bring the comic to life during the 2010-11 broadcast season, with Josh Friedman penning the script. Produced by 20th Century Fox Television, the drama went to pilot with Mark Pellegrino, Miranda Otto, Jesse McCartney, Sarah Bolger and Nick Stahl attached.

For WME-repped Cuse, Locke and Key arrives as his A&E drama Bates Motel is set to close up shop this month. His FX drama The Strain will also wrap its run later this year. Should Locke and Key go to series, Cuse would have dramas set at both Hulu and Amazon, with the latter behind the Jack Ryan reboot.

While the fan-favorite project was passed over, it was eventually screened as a one-off at Comic-Con 2014. Kurtzman and Orci subsequently set up a feature trilogy based on Locke & Key at Universal in 2013.

‘Locke & Key’: Andy Muschietti Replaces Scott Derrickson As Director Of Hulu Pilot

Quote:
Hulu’s one-hour horror-fantasy drama Locke & Key is getting a new director. Horror filmmaker Andy Muschietti (Mama) has been tapped to helm the adaptation of the IDW comic by Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez. He replaces originally attached Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson, who has a scheduling conflict with another pilot he is directing, Snowpiercer at TNT, which stars Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs.

Argentina-born Muschietti is coming off directing a feature adaptation of one of the best-known horror novels: It, by Hill’s father Stephen King. It will be released in September.

This series can't catch a break. Hulu passed on the new pilot, according to an actress who had a role in it:

Quote:
Samantha Mathis: I just finished a movie that Jason Blum produced. It was originally called All That We Destroy. I think now it’s going to be called Honeycomb and it’s a thriller horror, basically a three-hander. I just finished that a couple weeks ago. I did a pilot for Hulu called Locke and Key but it didn’t get picked up by Hulu. It’s getting shopped around to Amazon and Netflix and Apple and everyone right now. Who knows, maybe that will end up some place.

That's a shame. I really enjoyed the pilot they screened at Comic Con years ago and was looking forward to this new iteration (especially with Muschietti helming it). Netflix already has something similar to this in Stranger Things though, I'm hoping Amazon purchases the pilot as part of its Pilot Season and maybe with enough votes it will go to series.

I think Amazon is done with their pilot season/viewer feedback thing... They seem to pick up fantasy series left and right these days so who knows?

Just finished the pilot episode.

Maybe I'm remembering the Fox pilot better than the actual graphic novel (its been years since I read it but its on my bookshelf so I'm gonna give it another go when I get home from work) but this feels very different from how I remember the comic reading.

[Show spoiler]Lovecraft is now called Matheson (maybe Amazon Prime's Lovecraft Country called dibs on the name, idk). For the life of me I don't recall a Fire Key or Mirror Key. The Anywhere Key I do remember though and thankfully they are keeping the Head Key. Part of the charm of reading the comic was the youngest son being the only one believing the power of the keys until his siblings caught on but that is rushed as well.

Over all its an alright first episode of the show but not quite what I was hoping for as its not altogether faithful to the comics I enjoyed. 3/5
