I know. Ebay is filled with The Keep bootlegs but I've never seen the blu-ray before.

In the theater at the time no one groaned or complained. Instead when it was first seen there was a gasp. Visually, it really striking.

It's funny how Mann is still putting out new cuts of Blackhat, it's like Oliver Stone with Alexander.

Just saw this on Amazon Prime of all places, in a 1.33:1 cropped version, with rather poor AQ and PQ. However, it's ripe for easy access and I'm happy it was there to view, I've never seen it and am starting to watch Mann's oeuvre. I thought it was a really interesting film. It's a shame distribution/licensing can't be figured out. There's a good vintage interview with Mann talking about the film (and Jericho Mile plus Thief) on YouTube, for those interested - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itOJ...ature=youtu.be

This is an incredibly atmospheric film, and I enjoyed watching it.

Saw it for the first time today. It was kinda cheesy, though I can see promise in some parts of it. The Tangerine Dream soundtrack was a bit of a mixed bag as well. I do like these kinds of movies though, so I could see myself watching it again.

Too bad The Keep isn't available anywhere in a decent version. I am very interested in seeing this, but the poor PQ & non-anamorphic print are a huge turn-off to me.

I did read the novel (by F. Paul Wilson) about 25-26 years ago; excellent horror story. I'm sure the movie isn't as good - which is probably another reason I haven't seen this...

I feel like a close friend died...
He was also said "the materials aren't there" when asked about a new cut with the lost footage restored, which I took to be a confirmation of the rumor from back in 2008 that the negatives for that cut footage were lost or destroyed.

Since Michael Mann does not own this movie, I don't think he has any choice in the matter. Paramount owns it, so the legal problems with the music must be what is holding up a release of the theatrical version on BR.

Love to get my hands on that Keep Blu-ray bootleg. Don't normally like buying bootlegs, but I'm not against it, especially if the studios make no effort to get it properly released.

Yes, I'd still like to see a physical media release of The Keep - a Blu would be amazing. But, hell - I'd settle for this film on DVD. It's too bad it's been held back for so long.

Just rented the standard def stream on Amazon and I am thankful I finally got to see this film in widescreen even with the actual visual quality being VHS level. Hopefully somehow, someday this will get remastered and re-released.

Michael Mann being the chronic tinkerer that he is should authorize a restoration of the original cut.

The likelihood of that happening though... Well... Umm...

It's shown up in HD on Film4 here in the UK a number of times. But doesn't look great, might be an upscale.

I'd like to just see a remastered version released of the theatrical cut. I don't know why Mann insists that the movie is not good because of the effects being unfinished or whatever when the biggest problems with the film are the script itself.

It is announced in Australia thru ViaVision but DVD only, with their Paramount deal. Hard to find any news on it. Any chance anyone has some input regarding this? As a HD version is available on the Paramount channel, i find it weird.
