HD VMD is announced for a US release this fall. Player starts from US$199.

HD-DVD supporters will say, "Yeah it's a cheap player but it doesn't have studio support!" But did they know that HD VMD has 45Mbps transfer rate, higher than their format? They're the ones who wanted cheap players.

Like any HD DVD fans are interested in a $1099 player!

That's more expensive than any of the current Blu-ray players!

Better late than never! While a slew of other manufacturers were spewing out high-def DVD players left and right, Integra was plotting and scheming—or maybe they were just trying to figure out which format was right for them.
I wasn't aware three companies constituted a SLEW, and their rate a SPEW.

So, what is the BD list considered then?

Since when did they care about studio support? Get Universal to put out their catalogue, and it's heaven. No?

And think of the savings for Universal!

It is an Acura, I own one. You're partially right as Honda makes Acura. Just to inform; Toyota makes Lexus, and Nissan makes Infiniti. Anyhow, I love my Acura Integra. I have never heard of Integra electronics products, though.

It is funny that these are the same people that have regularly made light of the fact the BD has too many high-priced players (which I don't entirely disagree with), but now they a have no problem with a 900.00 player in their line-up.

I guess any additional players that are announced for either side can't be a bad thing. We will see over the next few days what BD has in store.
To me it looks like they have all their bases covered...Under $200-$1000 not bad from a consumers viewpoint. BDA needs a player in the sub $250 price range like yesterday.

Reading isn't one of your strengths apparently. I am not sure what you mean, but I want only one format to exist, Blu-ray, but I am open minded enough to know the HD-XA2 is an excellent HD DVD and DVD player. Understanding that Blu-ray and HD DVD are both doing poorly in terms of marketshare is pretty easy if you can read and have basic math skills. You don't need to leave it at that, take your best shot, it obviously won't amount to much. Go ahead and provide a link to anything that promotes HD DVD from me.

If you think the blind rah, rah, rah nonsense while Blu-ray flounders trying to find a market is required, I don't agree. This war is going poorly unless you want both formats to exist and Blu-ray to have 60% of a small market. We get an announcement each week from somebody predicting Blu-ray has won or will win, but nothing material ever happens. An announcement from Onkyo/Integra that another company name will be on a Toshiba designed HD DVD player along with another dual format player from LG is bad news, I didn't want to see it personally, but I understand what it means. It means the format war is going poorly except to a few dozen people that post here.

While I do agree with Chris in his above post I will say this...

If this news is 'huge' and worthy of 'gloating' over to the HDDVD folks, then I think I'm just gonna send them a bottle of ExTenze for men and politely ask them to be quiet now. Seriously, gloating over two high end manufacturers that aren't even making original equipment really is pretty sad and shows quite the inferiority complex.

Other than Toshiba and perhaps Onkyo which of any of those brands has mainstream recognition from your average joe crowd?

I'll note that i'm mostly speaking from perspective on the Australian market:

Toshiba isn't quite known for consumer electronics here anymore, not like they use to be. Even then I find many of their products of questionable quality.

Venturer??!?! never heard of them here.

Shinco are known here for making OK! portable dvd players and here in Australia have the perception as a cheapie Target brand.

Integra is only known by your niche high end market.

Alpine is car audio AFAIK, unless they are making a foray into home gear, but really what good is HD-DVD on a 12" in-car LCD (it does have wank value!)

Really nothing impressive from the HD-DVD camp.............it remains to be seen how good a quality these budget players will be.

Shinco must be doing something right though they do manufacture 1/3 of the worlds portable dvd players

Venturer is a canadian company. They make extremely low quality electronics. They're sold at Walmarts, but only in Canada from what I see. They're even worse than durabrand.

The only way venturer will compete with toshiba is by making an extremely stripped down hd-dvd player, so while it might have a temporary boost to sales, im sure the brand and the quality will stop it from being a huge seller.
