I'm glad they're getting an American BD release. The BBC is really good with getting the good shows out quickly. It's a little bit pricey to preorder at the moment but I will definitely pick these 2 up if/when I see them on sale. I love the show.

There's an issue with episode 5 of season 15 (the one with Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise as the Stars in a Reasonably Priced Car). The episode, as originally aired, closed with a very good profile of Formula One driver Ayrton Senna which made up the last 12 minutes of the episode.

Unfortunately, Formula One put some extreme restrictions on Top Gear's use of the piece. The show was granted permission to air the piece once and only once. Any versions of the show past the original airing would be required to have the piece edited out. That means reruns, versions of the show on DVD/Blu-Ray, iTunes editions, the works.

Accordingly, the version of episode 5 on the season 15 BD will have the final piece edited out (and, consequently, runs about twelve minutes shorter than the rest of the episodes). It's unfortunate and it's irritating but there's nothing that can be done about it.

I'm still trying to figure out why season 14 is $21.99 and season 15 is only $18.99. Wonder if the price will drop by next week.

I'm curious about the news aspects as well. Info?

I actually knew that the Senna tribute would be cut. And, actually, I think it aired twice. FIA (And Bernie) are absolute tightwads about archive footage and as soon as it aired everyone knew that'd be the only time to see it.

That being said, it is on the interwebz. And it is quite amazing. Seeing Lewis' emotion in his car too as really cool. I will definitely keep it on my computer because it's one of my absolute favorite moments of all Top Gear.

I was wondering this as well. I ended up giving in and ordering them on Amazon to get here Tuesday. I can't pass it up. But when I was re-looking at the info, I noticed the extras on Season 14 say "Polar special". Is that THE polar special that was released across the pond and sells for 30-40 USD?

http://www.amazon.com/TOP-GEAR-POLAR-SPECIAL/dp/B001D40U5M/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1297404566&sr=8-15

If so, that's a pretty dang sweet special feature. If those that have it can see, that would be great. It runs just a tad over an hour, like a normal episode (though I don't know if "the director's cut" is any longer").

I could be mistaken, but I believe that the Director's cut is around the 90 minute mark. When I get home i'll check the Blu.

Series 14 is 3 discs, while 15 is only 2 discs. The SRP's are $30 and $25 respectively.

Since both series have the same number of episodes (7), I'd be hard-pressed to explain why one required more space.

FYI, for those who already have the Polar Special blu, Amazon is offering $13.50 on a trade-in, making the purchase of Series 14 a net cost of $8.49. I just traded mine in, you ship it off to the merchant for free and they put a GC in your account upon receipt.

Thanks for the info. I guess that begs the question on which version it is - regular or directors. I always thought the regular was about 62 minutes.

Either way, I think it's really sweet that the Polar Special is on it. Essentially makes it 8 episodes.

I'd assume this would have a slight amount of artifacting / ghosting as opposed to the eventual UK release (which would be in its native 1080i50).

I wish the UK would stop recording and broadcasting their shows in 1080i50.
They aren't doing it just to piss us off... the reason they are doing it is because they have different electricity than we do, we have 60Hz power, and they have 50Hz. When Television was developed, the frequency of the power was set as a clock to control the frequency of the scan, so by necessity, ours was multiples of 60, and theirs was multiples of 50.

Yeah, that's my point. The limitations of 80 years ago when these standards were developed should now be entirely obsolete. These HD sets are neither NTSC or PAL and are capable of accepting and converting resolutions of varying refresh rates (as are most of the cable boxes in modern use.) Why are they still broadcasting with a 50hz refresh rate on HD channels in Europe?

Anyone end up picking these up today? I want to pick it up alongside MvsC3, but only if the news isn't edited.

Got mine in the mail from Amazon. From what I've watched, it matches up with the BBC America aired edits, and the picture quality isn't AMAZING, but definitely a step up from DVD.

So what specifically have you seen that made you think it matched up with the BBCA edits? Until very recently the show was edited to fit into a one hour timeslot with about 10- 15 or so minutes of commercials and the news was edited out completely. Is the news in the Season 14 BD? How long are the individual episodes, 45 - 50 minutes or the original 60 minute UK format?
