I watched it last night and my review will be up today. Short version: I looks and sounds great.

The transfer seems strong, although--and this is just my opinion--it looks like colors could stand to be a bit more dense. It's by no means wishy-washy though. Lines are nice and crisp and there's virtually no noise in the image.

The audio makes good use of directionality, and everything sounds clear and full.

The only bummer is that the commentary tracks are on the included DVD, not the Blu-ray disc.

This might be a stupid question, or something that the answer to is common knowledge to anime buffs, but what is the sound that is heard repeaditly in the outdoor scenes of this movie? It's a kind of "buzzing" that sounds like it is some kind of bug, possibly prominent in Japan, as I've heard the sound in other anime films that feature outdoor scenes.

It's the sound of cicadas. It's usually used in anime to signify that it's summer.

Was going to say the same thing about the cicadas. but regardless that it is so well noticable on this release is a fantastic testament to the quality. Blind bought and Watched this last night and this one will definately be on my list of Movies I can just throw on and enjoy.

my order still says open on the DDD site, but it arrived from them last tuesday. so it could be on the way to you. ...or not. probably doesnt help you that much

I went to Best Buy on Tuesday to pick it up but the customer kiosk said it was backordered. I checked here to make sure other people were receiving it before I order it online.
