I haven't watched a DVD in about 6 months now and frankly don't see myself doing so again anytime soon...if ever.

At my peak I owned about 200 DVDs and I'm down to about 75 or so at present. The movies I really care about get replaced by BD counterparts as available.

I have a stack of DVDs setting on the shelf. Some were never opened. Time to make room for my new BDs. I even tell my wife to only put BDs in the Netflix que. I imagine e-bay will have a huge amount of DVDs for sale soon.

I'm realistic in knowing that there will always be some DVD's on my shelf, so long as there are rare titles no studio will ever bother to re-release--
To this day, I've still got VHS tapes of movies that still haven't made it to DVD yet (so, uh, Universal, think we'll ever see "Pirates of Penzance" in HD? ), so I know my shelf may never be 100% DVD-free.

Still, I'm getting used to the idea of adjusting future Blu-vs.-DVD purchases accordingly:
After getting that first widescreen set, I went back to conduct Old-DVD Shelf Inspection for non-anamorphic titles, and found three old-generation letterbox "duds" that I wondered whether I'd have to go to Best Buy to upgrade:
Thing is, though, I kept thinking "'Young Frankenstein'?--Nahh, you just know Fox's going to get that one out for some '08 wave....'Life is Beautiful'?--C'mon, that's Miramax, Disney's always pushing that one down our throats..."

(I figured, why bother buying the DVD's?--It helps to plan ahead.)

It was originally "Digital Video Disc" with the introduction of DVD movies. Once it also became a storage medium for consumers, they pretty much called it a "Digital Versatile Disc".

Now that it is obsolete and we are all stuck with it, "Dud Video Disc", or "Digital Victim's Disc" would suffice.
