Let's start some sort of online petition and demand the theatrical version to be released!

Reading in the favorite comedy thread, it's obvious that Dumb and Dumber is the clear winner, so it clearly has a big following around here!

Who can do it????

Here is the link of the thread I am referring to:

I'm going to have agree with the majority of folks in this thread and say that I definitely prefer the theatrical cut. I own the blu, but wish they'd release the theatrical. I remember when I bought it I watched it day of and said to my wife, "This has an almost opposite feel to it than the theatrical! How can they get away with this?!" I still prefer watching my DVD copy of the original.

BTW, to those concerned about the PQ of this film I would say that you're never going to be satisfied. Sorry, but it's true unfortunately.

Yep, there's a difference between the US and the European (not just the UK) theatrical cuts. There's some extra scenes in the European version, and these are all part of the "unrated" cut that's out on Blu-ray now (in addition to some other scenes never released before).

I always loved the Mocking Bird scene in the European cut, but I have to agree that some of the "unrated" scenes on the Blu-ray is ruining the movie (the hot tub scene comes to mind...).

They should have given us both versions, and I hope a theatrical cut of the movie will be released on Blu-ray as well. The "unrated" Blu-ray isn't any good anyway (not the best picture quality).

EDIT: And the "little old lady" scene is still missing from all DVD/Blu-ray versions. Do a search on this forum to see the history behind this scene.

Me neither. It's OK and was better than I expected. I don't know, but I guess people think it should look like the latest Pixar movie, or Avatar.
This was a low budget film, and won't look much better than it does on BD, and the audio is actually very competent.

Anyway, let's demand that theatrical edition to be released on BD!!!!!!!

I just want to say that I HATE HATE HAAATE the unrated cut. One of my all time favorite movies ruined on blu ray.

I agree with many here. The unrated cut makes Harry and Lloyd look like a couple of jackasses. In the theatrical they are just loveable morons. The hot tub scene for example. Nothing funny about that, just Lloyd being gross listening to two people have sex and sexually harrassing Harry. Garbage of a scene.

Still waiting for theatrical cut on blu ray.

So, fans of the theatrical would say this is their feelings on the unrated

Also, my favorite joke/gag for the longest time was always Harry lighting his foot ablaze, but now that I know what a "Pullover" is, my vote goes to "No it's a Cardigan but thanks for noticing" LMAO

Agreed! I feel like I can only watch this movie when it's on TV because the unrated version sucks so much!

This movie and Stripes are definitely two comedies that are in dire need of a re-release featuring the theatrical cut. Until then, the dvds are sadly the lesser of two evils.

Yup, I still own the original snapper-case DVD of Dumb and Dumber. It's one of my all time favorites and the Unrated cut just bugged the shit out of me.

The extended cut of Stripes I actually like (as long as you skip over that long "vacation" segue about 40 minutes in). But I still agree the original proper cut of the movie should have been included.

Really, I think EVERY movie should always have the original theatrical release as the base standard and any Director's/Extended/Super-Size-Me edition should always be considered as the "second" version.

I'm happy enough with the DVD. Will always take a better cut over superior picture and sound any day.

This is an example of more doesn't equal better, ecxept when it involves other movies like 90's comedy classic ace ventura and Leaving out Heinskitz Velvet trainer of dolphins!

It's one of my favourite comedies ever, and I'm pleased to see it's not just me who thinks the theatrical cut is a lot better than the 'unrated' cut which just pads the film's running time and adds unpleasantries for the sake of it.

I'm ok with just owning the DVD for the theatrical version. I tried to watch some of the deleted scenes they added into the unrated version and holy crap are they bad.

That's the power of editing. With comedies it's sometimes a couple of scenes away from being a comedic masterpiece (the theatrical cut) to a bad comedy with some funny scenes (the unrated cut).

Just in case everyone didn't know, you can get an HDX digital version of the theatrical Dumb & Dumber on Vudu. I think you can use the in home disc to digital on the blu-ray which would only cost a dollar if you do 10 or more.

I did this and until a blu-ray is released, I'll watch the theatrical version of Vudu over the blu-ray.

As well as Talladega Nights, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Amadeus and for those who don't like to import, Dances With Wolves. I'd also like to see the theatrical cut of JFK resurface one day.

Dumb and Dumber To feels like a sequel to the unrated cut of Dumb and Dumber, and not a sequel to the theatrical cut if that makes sense.

I agree, if for no other reason than to me they might as well not exist.

In fact, lets establish the Dumb and Dumber "canon."

Canon 1: Dumb and Dumber (theatrical)

Canon 2: Dumb and Dumberer, Dumb and Dumber (unrated), Dumb and Dumber cartoon series, and Dumb and Dumber To.
