I hope they touch on Pym's relationship to Wasp. They go through a lot of hardships if I remember right. If played correctly, on top of having the spirited comedic dialogue introduced by Iron Man and the overwhelming romantic chords of The Incredible Hulk, this could bring all sorts of drama never thought to be explored in superhero movies. I'm excited for Ant Man for its potential, and even more so since it is being overseen by a proven quality director. No matter how hard it is to believe, I'm actually more excited for this than Captain America. Bring it on Wright!

It's about all they've got LEFT if they want to play it canon-straight...
Considering the movie only exists because Stan Lee wanted to do a comedy eighteen years ago.

(Me, I say scrap all the individual Thors and Ant-Man preliminaries; just give us the Captain America warmup, jump straight into the Avengers group movie, and do it like the first X-Men movie handled it: New recruit we know, ie. Tony Stark and/or defrosted Captain, finds their first bearings, and discovers a new weird hero around every corner...
Like Thor's "is he Valhallan, or just nuts?" introduction in the Ultimate Avengers toon--Let the main characters figure out the new faces along with the audience.)

The director is saying 2010. Which would make sense. Sure, it's not a confirmation by Marvel, but they've already been working on this one for some time.

I haven't even heard about that one. Is the cosmic blond guy (Skrull, I believe?)? There's at least two Capt. Marvels' in Marvel alone.

If you're too young to have heard of Watchmen, then you're too young to know the WHOLE, sad, twenty-year saga of somebody getting the darn thing made--
The somebody for about twelve of those unsuccessful years being Terry Gilliam, which, along with "Lost in La Mancha", got film fans to talk about "the Gilliam curse" of Terry films that go for years without getting to shooting or theaters.

Here, it's not so much the shock that they're doing Watchmen, or that it looks relatively faithful, it's that they actually FINISHED IT!
And like Indy IV, I've had too many years of doubting, and I'll believe it when I see the trailer.

(Which could also be said about the Ant-Man movie.)

Here's another update!

CS: The interesting thing about "Ant-Man" is that after "Iron Man" opened so big, there was this huge Marvel Studios bells and whistles announcement of their movies for the next three years and "Ant-Man" wasn't mentioned.
Wright: I think having spoken to Kevin Feige, the "Ant-Man" film I have in mind is a bit more stand-alone, and that's kind of what I wanted to do in a way. I think my take on it is something that may or may not fit into what "The Avengers" would eventually do, but they're very keen on it and they've even talked a release date with me in very vague terms. It looks likely that I will do "Scott Pilgrim" next and then "Ant-Man" straight afterwards.

CS: I want to ask some more "Ant-Man" stuff because besides the release date, there's been a lot of chatter and speculation about what that movie might be like, whether it's a straight comedy or not. Did you look at any specific issues or stories to based the movie on?
Wright: It doesn't really have elements of an entire strand or series, because Ant-Man is a character that over forty years, he's kind of cropped up in various different guises, and it's always interesting to me what elements of the character people latch onto. Everyone seems to latch onto the wife-beater elements. I'm not even sure if I read that particular story. I maybe read parts of it. You know, the only thing is that parts of it touch upon is the whole mythos, and basically, it's the story about Hank Pym and Scott Lang. Our big spin on it is an origin tale for one of them and kind of like a swan song for the other.

CS: Are you going to be able to get the Wasp in there at all?
Wright: In a very roundabout way. We want to sort of leave some things for some future visions or spin-off things as well. It's difficult to tell forty years of Avengers history in one film, and I'd rather concentrate on two or three great characters.

CS: Ant-Man also had the worst villains in the Marvel Universe.
Wright: Living Eraser…

CS: Egghead…
Wright: Like The Protractor… it always seemed like for the first 12 issues of "Ant-Man," it was just the contents of a pencil case.

CS: You could probably make up a villain and it would be better than any of the villains in the comic books.
Wright: I don't think there's any villains from the original comics, I mean Ant-Man standalone, that are like famous enough to… I mean, in a way, one of the things that was sort of a high concept of characters so much is that you don't need to have a Marvel super-villain in the film. Ant-Man is enough in an otherwise kind of real world.

CS: The good thing is that the character doesn't have that many diehard fans, at least not that I know of, although maybe they'll come out of the woodwork when you're at Comic-Con talking about the movie.
Wright: "Hey, you didn't beat his wife enough!"

CS: (laughs) No, no, he really didn't beat his wife at all when he was Ant-Man. That was like later when he had five different personalities.
Wright: I think you got the sense with the original. I had lunch with Stan Lee and it was very interesting talking to him about Ant-Man because he said to me that he always felt like Ant-Man was a character that should have been bigger, and like they made mistakes, even just in the artwork, that sort of prevented him from doing that. It's kind of interesting. He said that he always felt that Ant-Man was a character that had more potential than it ever really delivered on. I like that Cold War stuff, it's great. Ant-Man taking on the Russkies single-handedly, it's funny.

Default Edgar Wright says

Hey,

Edgar Wright has a say about Ant-Man:

PIXAR ISN'T DEVELOPING THE MOVIE

Quote:
After Disney announced that they would be acquiring Marvel Entertainment, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed during a confrence call that “Pixar boss John Lasseter talked to the Marvel guys about” the possibility of working together on a Pixar film, and “they all got excited about it. We think there’s ultimately some exciting product that come of that. Sparks will fly!” Then earlier this week Entertainment Weekly reported that “Pixar already has their eye on Ant-Man.” If that is true, both director Edgar Wright and Marvel head Kevin Feige know nothing about it…

CHUD contacted Wright, who has been developing the big screen adaptation for the last five years, for comment. Wright confirmed that he’s still attached to the project, but hasn’t had much time to work with Joe Cornish on the second draft because of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

“I just spoke to Kevin Feige for the first time since I wrapped and we are meeting this week to discuss the next phase,” wrote Wright. “The news that Pixar is involved is not wholly accurate and a little premature to comment on. I love Pixar’s work more than anyone and indeed would love to collaborate with them.”

It seems pretty opbvious that the rumor started as an idea in all the Disney/Marvel speculation, and somehow morphed into news in this big Hollywood game of telephone. Wright, like others, also questions the idea that Pixar would be interested in doing “a shrinking film” since “Toy Story and A Bug’s Life already cover this territory to some extent.” At this point the only reason I’m interested in a big screen Ant Man is because of Wright’s involvement, and Pixar could be one of only a few other reasons for me to be excited about the film adaptation. As for Wright’s take on the second teir superhero character…

“It’s true that the character is not considered one of the Marvel brand leaders and that is precisely what excites me about it. I want to make a film inside the Marvel Universe that is something a little different; a genre film within the superhero genre so to speak,” says Wright. “My spin on Ant Man is very different than a straight superhero origin - and very much live action. At some point in this century, I intend to stop talking about it and make the damn thing.”

Lets hope so. Wright had a little bit more to say on the subject, and you can read his statement in full over on CHUD.

Enjoy.
