This project has potential. I loved Robotech and hope it won't be ruined by Hollywood.

I'd rather see the animated series continue. I wonder how many times we will have to hear that song, "To be in love...". Man that got to me years ago but I still loved it.

H-wood likes to make sequels of remakes. Give me something new based on a sci-fi book. There are so many good stories that have gone untold.

Have you seen this? Came out last year. Clickatorium

There was also the short-lived Robotech II: The Sentinels in 1986 that was canceled after only 3 completed episodes when things apparently went sour between Macek and Tatsunoko Productions. But at least we have the McKinney books and the comics. I thought those were pretty good.

the "protoculture" and "2 young pilots" makes me think more of Mospeada than Macross

It's not anime. It's a bastardization of the continuity Macek threw together in a couple hours (that's what he told me) to tie 3 unrelated shows together

This is simply a craptastic movie that Harmony Gold put together to once again try to seperate "Robotech" from its component elements.

"Anime Bento" is simply digital projection of a few anime titles (I wish Cagliostro wasn't dubbed) in the movie theater, it's a satellite multicast just like they do the marching band thing and concerts.

I'm sure you can rent it at pretty much any blockbuster, it's been out for months

Macek... he's an interesting character. I met him for the first time back in 1986 when Robotech was at its height. I think he was willing, at the time, to try anything to get those shows on the air. Even if it only took him a few minutes, it is quite an accomplishment to link Macross, Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospedia into a fairly cohesive story-line. Those shows couldn't have been more different.

I still have my original copy of "Robotech Art 1" signed by Macek. Anyone want to buy it?

I also just snagged an original production cel and key animation drawing from Macross. Great stuff!

Uh.. check out my avatar... duh.

I actually found Shadow Chronicles to be a good bit of fun. Robotech was what got me into anime back in the mid 80's. But I'm not a hardcore weird fanatic about Robotech. There's an HD vesrion of the film as well, something I confirmed back when it was released.

As for Cagliostro, well, I'm glad it's dubbed. It means I can take my daughter and several of her friends since they adore Lupin and likely wouldn't see a Lupin movie on the big screen otherwise.

Harmony Gold hired him. They already had a syndication package lined up and it was happening no matter how bad the end product would have ended up being under another peron's watch. They sat there with 2 studios and an edit bay between them and dubbed 80 episodes in either 2 or 4 months, I forget which. Either way for reference even the mediocre on their best day dubs they do now take closer to a week an episode.

I see it as a miracle that it's any good at all to be honest

That being said, it should never be viewed again. It served its purpose, and now we have original subtitled versions of all the shows in their proper form, should be properly Ark'd so Reba West can never make another child cry.

Totally off topic, but are you a Blue Angel pilot? Love seeing them when they come here (abbotsford air show).

God... Reba West sucks! Macek used to always tell people that her best vocal performance as Minmay was achieved by getting her blind drunk. Somehow that's not surprising. Her acting, singing and everything else is absolutely cringe-worthy.

I actually wrote a musical about Carl. He liked my songs actually

I stole the music from West Side Story as I have no talent for composition
Carl, failing to find any voice actors to work on his new Streamline pictures dubs discovers a homeless man willing to work for Jack Daniels in an alley, and has a brilliant idea

To "Tonight"

(Carl)
Tonight, Tonight
We'll dub this film tonight
and we won't care about quality at all

This film, let's watch
Here is a case of Scotch
and we'll drink and dub till dawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

(Bum)
Today, all day all I'll all blotto
It's like I won the lotto
I know my cheeks will bright-en

(Both)

So here we are,
and what was just a dub, is North Starrrr!
Tonight!

(music swells)

Other songs include "Akira"(Maria), Dear Mr. Macek and more!

Avoid watching Robotech: Shadow Chronicles at all cost. Even though it was animated through a Korean studio, and maintains a high quality animation, the story is so weak, you'll be bored to tears.

And they're making a sequel ><;; Bah....

Only watch it if you want to cure your insomnia...
