It's the only version of the film that's not in mono!

Not that it matters now, but there was a 2 disc Deluxe Edition that came out a few years ago(2004 maybe

) that had DD 5.1.

That one didn't have 5.1, it was 2.0.

Maybe I'm just confusing it with the Superbit mentioned earlier, but I don't remember owning the Superbit of this one. One of the downfalls of owning so many DVD's I guess.

Nope. ALL releases have been mono except for the superbit.

From what I remember, it was actually made with the original stems and wasn't just a "fake" 5.1 but I could be wrong.

So because I'm super excited, I ended up pre-ordering it without knowing the release date. If I find a better deal or learn that they screwed up the transfer, I can always cancel it.

Hoping for a full out, special edition including a new commentary from the surviving cast, Reiner and even Stephen King. Are there any deleted scenes out there? Let's hope.

I saw this in the theatre when I was 8. One of my favorite movies all time. I bought it out of the wal-mart $5 bin a couple years ago but, it only has a mono soundtrack and the picture is kinda shitty. I will pick this up someday when the price is right.

Wow, R-rated? In Sweden this was uncut and rated 11 which means 7-year olds could watch this in the company of an adult. I guess this movie isn't suitable for American children!

That's another movie we need on Blu. Love it as well and it's underrated IMO.

Back in the 80's, movie rating were more of a suggestion. At least where I grew up. Proud purchaser of a ticket to The Thing in 1982 at the ripe old age of 11.
