Regardless of if you think i'm wrong or not. The artistic integrity is more important than logos that less than 1% of the consumers take into consideration. Other countries get by without them and nobody died AFAIK.

No offence, but it's not a case of whether you agree or disagree; the fact remains that legally the certifcates are more important than the artwork. Remember, artwork is only there to sell it to the consumer; it's not really there for the consumer to sit down looking at it thinking "that looks lovely". That might be what you do, but there's a difference between what you do do and what it's there for. So saying the artwork is more important than the rating is like saying it's more important to go on a nice holiday than pay tax; yes, you'd rather do one than the other, but the 'other' has to be done legally, whether you like it or not.

Other countries have found a way round the certificates, but I can only guess that there's something in the BBFC policy that states it must be printed onto the sleeve, case, box, etc. I know some steelbooks have produced the logos as stickers, such as Star Trek and Terimator Salvation, but they were online exculsives to a single site; so presumely because they can state the rating of the film on their site it doesn't have to be on the steelbook as well.

Agreed. And there are ways to get around it in store as well - think about the StudioCanal digibooks which have no logos printed on them at all, they're all stickers on the shrinkwrap or on the information card. Or, say, the Band of Brothers tin. It's just that companies designing/releasing these packages don't take this into consideration or bother getting around it.

I don't think less than 1% of consumers take note of ratings logos... It's much more of a collector's thing to care a lot about artwork, whereas rating logos have practical value to loads of people. I agree they are a tad overkill (particularly the Irish ones) but growing up in the UK I can't help but feel that most people are so used to them that they're not bothersome... unless they're collectors, like us. The US manage to get by with barely noticeable logos (not to mention all those supposed 'unrated' releases) but they're rating system is hopelessly flawed... If you consider the BBFC's rules regarding logos problematic, well... I'd take their flaws over the MPAA's any day.

Not that I'd ever want it risked, but in a way maybe it would be better if the UK had gigantic rating logos. That way, like Germany, they'd think of more inventive ways for you to be able to get rid of them (or at least not harm the artwork).

...But again, knowing my luck they just wouldn't bother and print them direct.

In the Playstation one era, Japan got round this problem with obi slips. It contained any logos and bar codes on it. In a way this was to enforce their "no resale" philosophy as they have a rule that you cannot trade items.

But anyway, a slip going over the binder is all that is necessary. I've even bought UK steelbooks that do this (although the slip is different).
