This is the perfect voice for Frieza. He's an aristocrat, someone who rules the universe with an air of sophistication. This is exactly how his Japanese voice was, as well.

Kai is the definitive Frieza, no doubt.

Frieza is supposed to be gender ambiguous. Sounding like a drag queen seems to make sense to me. The first voice may not have been the best, but I still sense some homophobia in all the people that complained about it back in the day. Same thing with Xellos' first voice.

I'm sticking with the Japanese voice cast. It's literally a who's who of the best Japanese voice actors. It's also what I grew up with. Ryuusei Nakao's voice is perfect for Freezer

I'm very tempted to buy these sets. I have never seen any Dragon Ball Z but my friend gave me a set of all the Dragon Ball series last year and I'm enjoying it. I'm about half way through those at the moment.

For newcomers, Dragon Ball Kai (or as in US, Dragon Ball Z Kai) is more recommended.

DBK is great but the definitive version are the Dragon Boxes Z.

Note: They aren't Region 2 compatible but get yourself a multi-region DVD Player, or on your PC and watch it.

The original Dragon Ball Z is awesome, so is Dragon Ball Kai and the rest.

Btw, if you want the true quality then wait for the Dragon Boxes of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball GT and The Movies.

Another thing is that Kai just covers until Cell Saga, the rest of the episodes are omitted.

Dragon Ball Kai is a director's cut version (Akira Toriyama).

Besides ending with Cell's saga, it has 98 episodes, the 98th will be released on BD and DVD.

A lot of people buy the DVD version, even more than the BD probably.

So Super Saiyan 3 and all that Buu stuff was never in the manga? This I did not know.

I myself have the orange sets. I know a quite a few DBZ fans were upset by the whole widescreen thing, but it hardly bothered me at all. I only remember a few scenes where it just didn't work with the shots in the scene. Hello Mr. Ginyu's crotch.

I was pretty annoyed with Funimation when I found out they were going to be releasing those yellow dragon boxes. They just released the "definitive" version of DBZ, but here comes the real definitive version. Then I found out the yellow sets don't have the american sound track. So no double dip for me, thankfully.

The Buu saga is in the original manga, but many believe that poor ratings and the earthquake disaster in Japan led to a premature ending for the series.

The English speakers are lucky enough that the Dragon Boxes came with an English dub (using the brilliant original DBZ music), it should have just been Eng subtitles.

Why is that?

I don't understand the concept of listening to a show in a language that I can't understand when theres an included dub in my native tongue...

And in all honesty the english bgm should've been included as well. A lot of people say that the original japanese audio is the 'true' dbz, well not to me. I grew up listening to Faulconer's score, so to me, THAT is what the 'true' dbz sounds like.

But, it all comes down to individual preferences, I prefer english audio & dialogue while others do not.

The Dragon Boxes are for the true hardcore fans of the show, if you like the american version stick to the orange bricks.

Well, Kikuchi's score (the original DBZ score) is included for Kai for Parts 5 and up on the Blu-ray due to the new composer copying music.

When I watched some of the Dragon Ball Z orange sets, the dubs left out info that the subs had. Master Roshi's sexual comment towards Bulma in one season is an example.

You don't have to like the japanese audio in order to be a 'hardcore' dbz fan.

I buy the Dragon Boxes because they aren't DNR'ed to hell and they aren't cropped, not because it has the 'original japanese audio.'

Say whatever you want, the real true hardcore fans are those who watch it originally as intended with the Japanese audio not americanized bullcrap.
