I forgot about those ratings ads on VHS tapes.

I've always wondered who those actors are in those anti-pirate ads, seen by millions of people and paid very little.

Yes agree with everyone else.. Disney are the worst when it comes to ads which soon become dated. I remember and old VHS I had with a 'In cinemas now' for 'Oliver and Company'.

As long as they are skippable I'm okay with them but far too often they are not. However disney the worse offender of trailers before menus has always allowed you to skip and even reminds you that you can. I'm pretty sure some of the more recent universal blu-rays don't have the trailers on disc but use bd-live to have up to date trailers played before the menu which I find quite innovative. The problem is these trailers used to be one of the few ways to find out about the latest releases but now with the internet everyone already knows what's coming soon to blu-ray and cinemas.

I also hate the piracy adverts however at least they have started thanking people rather than going on at the people who have bought a legal copy.

Yeah the thanking ads are a step in the right direction, the old anti-piracy ads are like a slap in the face to everyone who actually bought it.

To be honest the only time I get really bothered by all the ads, is when watching a TV box set, couple of episodes on disc 1 then have the exact same ads again with disc 2, 3 etc. when marathoning a show it can get tedious.

Universal DVD's used to start up straight away without any warning. I know some of my BD's do the same (I think Warners Bros.) it should be standard practice.

The rest should be available from the menu.
I completely agree with this and they are sometimes quite nice to watch, but the one that really bugs me is the "Bulding New Memories" advert for Blu-ray.
Because it's so Americanised, patronising and wrong. Who on earth thinks watching a Blu-ray is so memorable that you'll look back on it in a few years and think "Oh, yeah I remember when I watched that Blu-ray". And then they assume that people use the DVD in the car.
I hate that advert so much.

That's a good point TL. When you're old and grey you'll remember the concerts you went to and the time you went out to the movies with your friends and family. I doubt you'll remember when you put a CD on or watched a blu-ray at home unless something else memorable happened.

I for one can hardly remember what I had for breakfast a week ago and I eat the same thing ever day....

And unless the entire windscreen becomes a HD panel I'm not taking my DVD's into the car.

The worst instance I've come across is the first disc of Lost: Season One advertising the blu-ray for season four at the very start.

That does nothing when the trailers are on the disc itself...

I personally don't mind them too much. I like it when the previews are for films that I previously didn't know about, and I then become interested in seeing after watching the trailer. I had never heard of Drive Angry until I saw the trailer on The Expendables Blu-ray, and after seeing the trailer I thought it looked like good entertainment. What does annoy me is when some studios put the same trailers on just about every title they release. Just about every Disney title that came out last year had a trailer for Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition, and it just got annoying seeing it used repeatedly.

Thanks for the heads up! I own it but haven't yet started to watch any of it (I am waiting until I have bought all six seasons, then I will watch them all back-to-back), so I'll make sure to skip or not view that trailer when I do watch it.

I tend to use the adverts now as the time I get the beer out of the fridge, get the popcorn out of the microwave and turn off the lights.

Which is fine if they allowed you to skip all of them with a single button press for those that don't like them...
