ok. i been reading and reading for the last hour and all i am gettting is more confused...to a point. seems that timbre matching is more controversial than anything else. heres what i got out of it:
1. NOT an exact science
2. does NOT have to be done
3. best to match the speaker manufacturer across the front 3 speakers
4. best to match the ohms

i read so much crap the last hour about this stupid crap to blow my head off. seems like you just gotta try out what you got then go from there. so when its setup and a car drives from left to right, you want to hear that going from the left speaker to the left center channel speaker to the right center channel speaker to the right speaker continuously. but to do this without hearing the setup first seems impossible. i asked about specs, etc to look for when looking to buy a front speaker setup and no one really gave an answer (its all good).

so that being said... wheres the problem with Polk Audio Monitor 50's front towers and the Polk Audio RM6752 center channel? how do you know that wont sound fine?
I just want to add to that demonstration of the auto. If you have an inferior or center channel that is lacking compared to your left & right towers, that car sound will be alot different.

It may start off in your right tower sounding like a well tune Ferrari, then once your center channel takes over, it may sound like a Honda Accord, then back to the Ferrari.

That example could be over be a little over the top.

A better example maybe, starting in the left tower, the car may sound like it’s five feet away, then once in the center, it may sound like forty feet away, then back to five feet in the right tower. Once that happen, did the car drive across the screen or did it drive 35 feet away and then reversed back to the start?

Besides the ‘Timbre Matching’, you gotta remember that the center channel is the most important speaker in the 5.1/7.1 setup. The center channel plays 60-70% of the movie audio.

and if i were to buy the CS1, which i think i am going to, the top of my entertainment center will fit that easily. just gotta clean it up a bit. it would go where the center speaker is now and i guess the comcast HD box will just sit to the side of it. will look a bit dumb but? i cant put it under the xbox since its to small and cant put it on top of xbox since the slim is like submarine heater when its turned on.

i looked on the polk audio ebay page, are their remanufactured speakers worth it? i hate used speakers but they have the CS1 for like $70. is that worth it?
I have been on this site for along time, and I am still learning something everyday. This is not an over night learning hobby.

Upgradities is about the wrost thing or to some, it is what makes this all the fun.

After you get your towers and center, your current surround sounds will be really nice. I just look forward to talking to you in another thread about upgrading your subwoofer.

It may not happen now or a few months, but it's gonna happen. Upgradities is something else. lol

Check again next weekend. Certain things go on sale nearly every weekend on Newegg and virtually all Polk speakers go on sale with them very regularly.

Mcgarnigal , many people rather buy the monitor 50's as surround just to save money on buying stands or brackets for the 40's ....But both speakers are great...I own them ...No difference at all..

Because the cabinet size, you should experience slightly better low frequency response from the 50's.....hence their specs.....42Hz for the 50's versus 47Hz from the 40's. As far as the highs and mids, you probably won't detect much of a difference IMO.

thanks to you and elivader, I noticed the small Hz difference, but i assume the naked ear isn't going to really notice, and you usually set your frequency crossover by tens of Hz as well. Question answered tho
