Yes LCD's CAN SOMETIMES be more energy efficient but they are still a somewhat inferior tech. And plasmas are far from perfect too.

If they are serious about reducing energy consumption, maybe more R&D into OLED technology perhaps?
Im glad some one hear no's what there talking about .

Currently Nuclear Energy is clean for the air and generates plenty of power for everyone.
Clean for the air, not clean for everything else unfortunately.

There really is no "perfect" answer, because everything you do has negative consequences

It's a no win situation.

You have tidal energy often talked about, never implemented, plus whats the effects on the environment, beaches, fish, etc.

Hydro, yes its great but all the loony greenies dont want damns built! ie the Franklin Dam in Tasmania, Australia!

Wind farms are crap, ugly, noisy, inefficient a blight upon the land.

Solar power just isn't efficient enough, then the issue of supplying energy at night time is something to be taken into account.

Coal, hugely polluting.

Nuclear, what do we do with the waste?

Someone mentioned fusion and helium-3, H3 is fantastic but we're only going to find that POSSIBLY on the Moon but more likely in the atmosphere of Jupiter perhaps?

I'd like to see someone try and figure out how we can actually make use of the giant magnetic field surrounding the Earth. Imagine if we could find a way to tap into that or tapping into the Van Allen belts?

I have to disagree, banning energy wasting technologies in favour of more efficient ones IS half the solution, while inventing and implementing cleaner energy generation methods is the other half.

Banning plasma TV is going to force CE to do 2 things: make plasma technology efficient enough to be acceptable again or invest in making other HDTV techologies better to make up for what advantages were lost with the demise of plasma.

Have a nice day.
who the hell is selling EDTVs as HDTVs come on ,your the only dumb ass that was fooled. Have a nice day.

I think this whole "save the earth" thing is getting messed up Royal! The banning of plasmas? Are you ****ing serious? Yes, that will solve the ENTIRE problem!

Here is the issue. We as humans are bugs. We have infected the planet and we are sucking it dry. Mining, pollution, water, fires and everything else. We consume and consume and consume. Yet, we give NOTHING back. You can only consume for so long, before what your consuming from - starts taking back on it's own. This is what's happening now. The earth is PISSED! It has decided, if your going to **** me over, I am taking you all with me!

Granted, I love my electricity and I used things constantly (computer, fans, tv) but I am conscious about it. If I leave, I turn them off. When I go to sleep, I turn them off. We don't run lights in our house. Mostly only the porch lights (which will be switched over to flours. soon). I don't take "hot" showers. I take cool showers. We recycle. We never used to, however I pushed for it and keep it going. We used to take 3 huge garbage cans to the curb every week. Now, it is 1 garbage can that is usually half full and about 5cans of recyclables.

You can make a change. I work from home. I used to drive ALL THE TIME. I have not used my car in over a week. I do IT and all my stuff is done remotely for the most part. We keep the AC at around 70. However we bumped it down to 68 because it gets a little warm.

Banning plasmas is not going to solve the big problem. Its a very small, unnoticeable measure that will do more harm than good.

The real issue is we need to stop using fossil fuels. We need to stop using gas, oil, diesel, wood, coal. We can't keep burning these things and expect nothing to happen. We are ****ing up the world. People are not realizing that. Glaciers that have been here for billions of years are MELTING. Not only will it increase the oceans depth, it's killing lots of animals. We as bugs, are swarming the planet like a plague. It has got to change now or it will be too late. Common sense has got to tell you, you can only take so much from the scale, before it starts to tip.

Why not Hydrogen? Give power back to the people. No more grids. The problem is control. The government does not want to release it. If each house/car had its own "power plant" fueled by the owner, it would be a wonderful thing. Instead, we are controlled by the grid. Power grid, gas grid, taxes, fees. Its absurd. It's all about how much money we can be milked for.

I can tell you right now, add up all your payments to the electric company since you've been making them and you could spend half that for a hydrogen solution and MAKE money in the process.

Sad.

Take a chill pill dude.

Walk into any Best Buy or Future Shop in Canada and you will see EDTV's mixed in with HDTV's and a display saying that it is HDTV Ready. The average consumer is pretty much clueless about HDTV resolutions and standards.

To make matter's worse, many of these larger EDTVs are priced similarly to slightly smaller 1080p LCDs which places some models in the mid-range of prices of HDTV's.

A customer might look at a 40" LCD with 1080p resolution decide to get the EDTV beside it because it's several hundred dollars cheaper and 46" instead of 40" assuming it will work with HD signals because it's listed as HD Ready. Many sales people work for minimum wage and barely know more about the product they are selling than the average consumer.

Have a rotten day.

Thank you. Yes, BB does it all the time and still does. Unless you read, they will not openly offer the fact that one is EDTV and one is HDTV. While I agree EDTV's should be outlawed, they still exist and people still try to "pass them off" to unsuspecting consumers.

If we could ban all of the hot air from the HD-DUD camp, then C02 emissions would drop considerably, and the UK could keep their plasmas.

Turn off Las Vegas for a few days. There lies the problem. Everyone wants their stuff and nobody wants to make sacrifices.

drinkmore,
perhaps its time to cut back on a drink or two. kidding. the problem with hydrogen is that you have to make it. which takes power. solar, wind, geothermal, and fusion will be great. hydro can ruin river systems by dramatically cooling the downstream flow (its cold at the bottom of a dam where the water is drawn from).

and banning plasmas will help. every little thing helps. even the couple of lightbulbs on your porch. I have extra flours bulbs if you are interested and close. I worked at home depot and bought a close out of about 100 bulbs for about $0.10 piece. mwahahahaha.

I see. But energy just does not appear without offsetting something else. As for the light bulbs, I am on the other side of the country, but thank you for offering

FYI - We have 2 flours. lights on the first floor that have been running for 5 years straight. The twirly ones when they first came out. Can't believe they are still kicking. When I say running 5 years straight, I mean just that. The only time they were turned off was during power outages. They are on 24/7.

If Plasma’s get banned where does it stop? Will the Denon and Martantz BLU-RAY players and other high-end BLU-RAY players be banned in the UK and possible one day in the US since they use a class A amplifier that requires more power? It makes more since long term to convert to a clean energy system that does not burn fossil fuels. Currently Nuclear Energy is clean for the air and generates plenty of power for everyone. Converting to a system that does not burn fossil fuels is the real long term solution. Banning, Plasma, DVD players, and PC’s is not the solution.
Clean??? How many decades do you have to stay away from an area with Nuke contamination? And how much of our underghround water supply will be contaminated??? Clean? sure.... it is..
