Wait a sec, this is for recent sales lol. It doesn't feel like the Slim has been out that long in my mind but you're right, that was a while ago. It says this is from April to December of 2010, I don't know, something must have changed to lure consumers to buy.

To be fair to MS, the NPD numbers are heavily skewed in their favor because the US is by far their strongest market. Kinect did very well here, did pretty well in the UK, but didn't latch onto the rest of Europe or Japan as tightly. It's nice to see both MS and Sony doing well because, if I have to be honest, I don't get much use out of my Wii. Don't get me wrong, I like the games Nintendo makes, but the vast majority of Wii games are intended for kids. Not too many God of Wars or Mass Effects coming out for them. Now, if only the guys who owned 360s in my area weren't so obsessed about 'proving' to me that I should convert to the Xbox branch of unitology...

I guess MS continues to have the same issue - people outside of America don't really care so much about the Xbox brand.

Microsoft needs to take tips from what Ford did in China or what Samsung did in Brazil. To be honest, I don't think that MS has been doing a horrible job with marketing over there (in Asia), it's that people are stubborn and sometimes a bit ethnocentric when it comes to established regional brands (e.g. Sony).

Personal attacks are the best form of rebuttal aren't they? Again, who said anything about MS? You sony boys need to let MS go and discuss things without constantly bringing them up.

So I'm not allowed to compare sales figures with Sony's direct competitor? Seems fair game to me. I said nothing bad about MS did I? I just think you are avoiding the fact you made an idiotic fanboy comment.

Nothing I said was factually incorrect. You're calling me that? Yeah, I'm a gamer first-always have been always will be. I find it humorous the sony die-hards can't have a civil discussion without personal attacks or bringing up their competitors.

But I'm not a Sony die-hard....i just recognize quality when I see it. I've owned a Nintendo Wii, 2 Ps3's, and 3 Xbox 360's. I hardly count that as a Sony die-hard. We can just agree to disagree I guess. No hard feelings.

Same goes for MS/Ninty sales threads on other sites. Quote:
The haters hide when reports like this come out cause they have nothing to say. This would of been on page 6 already if it was a bad report. The "sony diehards" are just reacting to the reactions that this type of report brings out. (Hope that made sense) Last edited by saprano; 02-04-2011 at 03:03 PM. |

Look at the situation objectively: PS3 - 6.3m, $299 base price Wii - 8.27m, $199 base price including 2 games 360 - 6.3m, $199 base price The highest price console sold the same as the much cheaper competition. How you can call that less than stellar is something I can't understand. |

Sales do seem flat year over year... 2237.9 compared to 2206.2 but if you look at the PS3 numbers, they are trending up....13M units to 15M and we still have Q4 FY10 to report even if they did have a less than stellar Q3 this year...meaning net income decreased year over year. Maybe it wasn't clear...so I spelled it out. How is that lowballing or fanboyism? I never once said that word until quoting you. |

Well those revenue figures are for Sony as a whole and aren't really important for this discussion. The important figures are NPS revenue with foreign exchange losses stripped out for a like-for-like comparison. Using that measure revenue is almost unchanged at ¥600bn, this despite the fact that PSP hardware sales are down by 15% and PS2 software sales are down by over 50%. If you look at the detail the only rise that Sony recorded in NPS is in PS3 software sales.
Net income in NPS has increased as a result, from ¥19bn to ¥46bn because of strong PS3 hardware and software sales and lower hardware productions costs for the PS3. |

All I did was state what was on their income statement, whether it was relevant to this discussion is up to the person. If it's in the picture, then I don't think the topic is off-base.
Well, you know as well as I do that Operating Income is not Net Income. Operating Income is income before interest expense, income taxes, and other non-operating income. |
