I agree with you about trusting reviews. I think that they are too often too positive. So i try to find a reviwer that "feel" like I feel. For doind that I analize the style of writing, and if I find a kind of "feeling" i choose to trust the review.
My chain is like that: dynaudio 72, jolida 1501 hybrid amp, jolida jd100s cd, van den hul cables, the name (signal) and snowline (power), jvc rs25 projector, ps3 bd player. Dynaudio speaker are very revealing, so they needs good amp and source, or they'll become a bit cold. I listen most of all symphonic music, classical and soundtrack, folk music of all the world, then blues, jazz, rock, raggae. every kind of music, but 60% symphonic. some reviews say that it's almoust impossible to hear difference between thesetwo Oppos, some other say that diferences are there and very audible. oppo 95 is almoust the double the price of 93, and in euro they are 700 euros and 1300 euros. i think to accept your suggestion: to take 95, and in future if I find a much better dac, and I have the possibility to try it, I'll buy it. |

That oversimplifies it. The two ES9018 DACs that are specially optimized in the 95 allow you separate analog outputs for stereo and multichannel. So as you stated it, both those reviews could easily be correct depending on the output choices of the reviewer.

$500 to the budget is an issue, but so is sound.
Probably 25% of my use is music only through the speakers, 25% music only through headphones, 50% TV (mostly speakers but some headphones) Integra 9.8 pre/pro (upgrading to DHC 80.3 when its released) KR Audio 6 channel amp Solus in-wall/ceiling speakers in the corners Eminent Tech XII center Audes S80 sub Sennhesier HD650s through a SinglePower PPX-6SN7 amp (Ken-Rad JAN input tube, Sylvania JAN outputs). Still sounds like the 95 despite the cost? |

Hi!
I need to upgrade to the 93 or 95 for their 3D capabilities and their 2 HDMI outputs. I now have an Oppo BDP-83 connected via HDMI to an Onkyo TX-SR875. My question is would I notice an audible sonic improvement if I went for the 95 and connected it to the analog 7.1 RCA inputs of the Onkyo a) with multichannel movie BDs; b) with multichannel opera / classical music BDs; c) with multichannel DVD-Audio discs and SACDs? I'd highly appreciate your help! Thank you very much in advance! |

I had a Oppo 93 for a week and ran it analog to a Marantz AV7005 and Sherbourn 7/2100a amp. I currently have the highly touted Arcam DV139 which sounds just fabulous on the commented formats. The 93 was definitely not as smooth, however, in an earlier test I put the Arcam head-to-head with the 95 and the 95 was airier and more transparent (but it was very close).
There are several features on the Oppo units that quite amazed me (i.e. what it can stream and play directly). These machines are made for the SACD/DVD-Audio format (best audio format EVER IMHO) and for DVD-A specifically have several awesome features to really get the most out of these discs. Analog cable heads-up: If you are looking for a inexpensive interconnect that sound fantastic, the nice ones that came with the Denon 5900 monster DVD player really do the trick. You can get them for $10/each at Denon direct and my friend compared them favorably to cables in the hundreds of dollars. I took out my front active Synergistic Research ICs (no slouch) and replaced them with these...so that's saying something. Now i just need to sell my Arcam DV139--which may be difficult in the US and would take a huge loss in the UK.... |

Since 2009 I have the OPPO BDP-83. And as an analog stereo freak, I like to buy the OPPO BDP-95. So I visited a pal (who is an analog stereo freak too) with a 2 month old BDP-95.
We noticed that the audio direct from the OPPO BDP-95 sounds less, than the analog audio from his Sony Bravia flatscreen, who has 2CH out too. This flacscreen is connected to the OPPO with a HDMI cable... Of course we switched the interlinks and amplifier inputs. The sound-differences remain... ![]() edit Besides these sound-differences we noticed, that after playing some tracks from music Blu-ray's, the sound became inferior (less controlled/lack of detail, etc.). So we opened the trace, immediatetly closed the trace and the OPPO-BDP-95 continues the track: sound Okay! After some tracks the same problem returnes. This happenes ONLY with music Blu-ray discs, NOT with CD/SACD and (music) DVD. We PRESUME, that the RAM and/or ROM of the OPPO has a hard job with the audio info of a music Blu-ray disc and 'translate' these info to analog, 2CH out... My friend will inform the OPPO-team ASAP. I have had my BDP 95 for about a month now. It replaced a BDP 83SE NuForce. I have to say that the analog 2 channel stereo music performance is absolutely excellent. And that was the main reason I decided to go with the 95. I got what I was looking for and I believe it easily out performs the SQ from my stand alone DAC (which is a dandy unit). The other performance areas of the 95 are great too, but the 93 would do just as well unless you are searching for stereo nirvana.
I also experimented with the multichannel analog outs. Sounded fine but for multichannel, I still prefer my AVR as a processor. Again, to me the 95 is the ticket if you want to ring every bit of perfection out of your 2 channel music CD's and SACD's. It is hard to even imagine a better 2 channel performer for this price point, or anything even close to this price point. Otherwise, I would get the 93.
