I'm pretty sure Russian Ark covered more ground than that shot. The film is comprised of a single 90-minute take, so it definitely lasted a longer time.

Regardless, that's a classic shot in Goodfellas.

Does Goodfellas have a lossless audio track?

Unfortunately not. One of the few I broke my rule for, though.

I already own the HD-Dvd, I can't justify replacing it unless it has a better audio track....Oh well, one day well get it probably...

It's pretty amazing how Scorcese set it up and executed it. You don't see unbroken shots like that in other films.
It's a genius shot, for sure. John Favreau pays homage to it in Swingers, right?

Being able to see Goodfellas opening week in a packed theater that didn't know what was coming next was one of the top three movie experiences of my life. In fact, the "Funny how?" scene with Peschi was the single most amazing moment I've ever experienced at the movies. Unbelievable.

[Show spoiler]Even though we were hearing Henry Hill's voice-over throughout the movie, which made us reasonably sure that he would survive the film, and even though it was based on his true story, which made it doubly obvious that he would survive the movie -- even with all of that, when Peschi starts in on Liotta you could have heard a pin drop in there.

Every single person in this packed theater is holding their breath, just like the gangsters around the table. Everyone is thinking this guy is going to snap and off Henry Hill right at the table. It felt completely real and awkward. When Peschi's character finally lets Liotta's off the hook, the entire table of gangsters erupts in laughter with relief, and the audience followed.

It was the craziest thing, but the wall between the movie and the audience was completely obliterated in that moment of relief, it was like we were all sitting around the table with them, part of the crew.

I've never experienced another moment exactly like that at the movies before or since.

Good Fellas is one the first Blu's I bought. It looks great and the movie is one of my all-time faves.

Can't go wrong.

Love the movie...one of my all time favorites...

I was surprised they didn't remove that vertical line...anyone know what one I'm referring to? I can't remember what scene it is but it's for a few seconds but it's clearly visable. The dvd is the same way too.

It never had that status. Touch of Evil opening goes way further in distance, as well as the Beach scene in The Longest Day, years before Goodfellas. And post Goodfellas, Russian Ark takes the prize.

I love this movie. Haven't bought it yet. Ordered the poster off of amazon for a couple dollars, can't wait to frame it.

Bought it on VHS, DVD flipper, Special edition DVD (just a month before I bought the PS3 )

Waiting to see if Warner will put out a 20th anniversary edition next year. With HD sound and no hair.

Anyone heard anything?

Ha! I had the flipper and the Special Edition as well, and now the Blu.

But you won't hear a peep of quadruple-dip griping from me if Warner decides to do the right thing here. Goodfellas is right up there with my favorite movies of all time and it's a crime not to have a lossless soundtrack. Scorsese's musical choices -- just classic. Frequently imitated, but never equaled. It's still my favorite movie to just listen to.

Default Henry Hill is Dead

He's a killer (murderer) who happened to be a thief.

No mercy for him.

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20120613/D9VCEUJO2.html

In the early 1990s, after more drug arrests, Henry Hill was booted from the witness protection program.

His fears for his life waned as many former associates died off, and he led a more public life in later years, appearing in documentaries and becoming a popular call-in guest on Howard Stern's radio show.

His death was first reported by the celebrity website TMZ.

His struggles with substances would continue for most of his life. In 2008 he pleaded guilty in San Bernardino, Calif., to two counts of public intoxication. In 2009, he was arrested in an Illinois suburb of St. Louis on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

"I've been on every drug humanly possible, and I can't get a handle on alcohol," he told The Associated Press in 2009. "I'll go two, two and a half years, and I don't know what triggers me."

Hmm.. So all Warner HD DVDs stop working after a while because of rotting. I heard that this isn't the problem with Universal. Don't know about Paramount.

I've had problems with Warner discs, but not Universal or Paramount so far.
