Well, 300 is actually getting a prequel...or at least that's the rumor right now. And Kindgom of Heaven kinda sort of has a sequel, unofficially in Ridley's Robin Hood, because it started as a sequel to Kingdom of Heaven. I know it's not an official sequel though.

Cloverfield was rumored to be getting a sequel...which i think would be good... more explanation etc...

as much as i would want to see another dazed and confused, theyd obviously ruin it... so guess it was better left alone, one of my all time favorites

I really like The Shawshank Redemption and glad a sequel wasn't made. The movie had an appropriate ending, no need to show what eventually became of Andy and Red. Captured and sent back to prison, etc.

The Goonies. I'm so glad that (despite all the talk of the actor's getting back together) a sequel was never done. No way they could of captured the same magic.

I was worried when another Forrest Gump novel was released shortly after the movie was released. But so far, nobody has gotten the urge to do it. Not to mention the second story wasn't any good.

There are few movies that are on a level of perfection. Forest Gump is one of them. There is no need for a second.

Of course it counts. If The Shining had not been remade as a mini-series for TV (which, by the way, was much closer to the book than the film was), it probably would have been remade as a feature film.

The Matrix...

Ooops nevermind .

I'd have to say The Departed. Because wasn't there a rumor awhile back that a sequel was in the works with Wahlberg?

Like "Hannibal Rising" and any number of published Blade Runner sequels, "Gump & Co." (New-dad Forrest and son wander through the events of the late 80's and 90's) had been written as a package bestseller-deal with movie-sequel sales in mind.
When the book flopped on the shelves, sequel plans were dropped, as the producers didn't want to risk doing their own sequel script without the book.

Throw in Gary Wolf's failed attempt to book-write a Roger Rabbit sequel, and no author has yet succeeded in book-starting a successful movie sequel. EVER.
(Except for Michael Crichton with "Lost World", but Spielberg never even ended up using the book anyway.)

I wish Terminator 2 never got a sequel. I agree with Independence Day.
