So far, most of the films in my collection have been upgrades to previous DVD releases. The only exceptions I can think of are "Voyage of the Dawn Treader", "I, Robot", "Iron Man 2", "Last Action Hero", "Race to Witch Mountain", "Terminator Salvation", "Walk the Line" and "The Wizard of Oz". That's about 8 films out of my 40 Blus so far, which makes about 80% of my collection upgrades.

I would say about 40-50% of my collection was owned on either VHS, DVD, or both.

About 30%, I tried not to buy any new film releases on DVD between the time Blu-ray won the format war and I got my first Blu-ray player.

Mine are not that many since I didn't collect as much before Blu-ray:
  • Harry Potter series (from DVD to regular BD to Ultimate Edition BD)
  • Resident Evil 1-3
  • Rocky: The Undisputed Collection
  • Spider-Man 1-2 (kept the second disc from the DVDs)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Film Collection
  • Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (kept the second disc from the DVD)
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (only had this one since I got it from my ex, will have to double dip on the Blu-rays for the bonus disc)

Kind of (I got rid of them way before BDs were released and now I decided I wanted them again):
  • Fantastic 4
  • Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer
  • Hulk (2003)
  • X-Men 1-3

And I plan to upgrade this year:
  • The Lord of the Rings Extended Editions
  • Star Wars The Complete Saga
  • Superman Collection
After that, it pretty much leaves the Indiana Jones trilogy to upgrade.

I remember when I upgraded to blu ray and saying "I'm only going to re-buy my favorite movies! DVD is good enough for all the others....."

yup. I was a total newb at buying dvds, every damn time a newer version came out -I bought it.
platoon
scarface etc., etc.

I'm pumping the brakes nowadays because, I'm starting to see the cheap seats making their way into the collection. And I'm more of a fan of packaging and quality for the greats.
