I'm very satisfied with the Stereo tracks on the BD concerts and the few
BD-A I have. DD Stereo? You mean lossy DD? I don't think I've seen this on any music BD's.

Kudos to the guys for venturing into the hi-def world. Thematically, many of their albums were directly on the pulse of the times or even ahead of the curve... 2112, Signals especially...

They truly explore their craft - Yes, Neil is a drummer, but is to a larger extent - a student of drumming. I can imagine them as REALLY being interested in getting their music to the fans in the best way possible, and the Hi-def platform of Blu-ray is going to be great!!!

It won't take much for it to be a bigger success than SACD in unit sales. In addition, the reason they're releasing it on Blu-ray and not SACD is because they want it released on a format that is supported by all studios and one that has players that will play the discs available at every electoronics store across the country. I mean, the reasons why they chose Blu-ray over SACD are so blatantly apparent that it seems bizarre anyone other than the completely unreasonable "Hiro" from the Steve Hoffman forums would ever question it.

Why is listening to music on a format capable of 24-bit/192kHz 5.1 and 24-bit/96kHz 7.1 counter productive? That doesn't make any sense.

These release absolutely DO NOT focus on the surround mixing. SACD is higher quality than DD stereo, but what Blu-ray Audio release limits the stereo option to DD Stereo? I'm not aware of ANY release on BD like that.

Your argument doesn't really make much sense here.

Blu ray is the new DVD (and will take over it eventually, just like DVD did with VHS.). Soon the majority of people will have a BD player in their homes. These people will be able to play all BD discs, including those just for audio as it's the exact same format. Not like when DVD-A and SACD came out and you NEEDED a different player (or a universal player) to play them all.

That is why surround and hi-res stereo are best made available on Blu-ray. Everyone can enjoy them, means more of the 'average joe consumer' will check them out because they don't need to fork out for a new/different player.

As for DD stereo, surely thats a joke? Every music blu I own has full 24bit stereo and surround, in lossless PCM and/or DTS-HD MA. That is far superior to SACD in terms of audio resolution.

Blu-ray surround may still only cater for audiophiles in the end but at least it gives all people a chance to try it out, without having to spend craploads of money on dedicated players.

Per rushisaband.com - Amazon UK and Canada have as pre-order already. Two options - CD/DVD and CD/BR. It is assumed the CD copy will be the 2 channel mixes and the DVD or BR will be the 5.1 also with the videos with a 5.1 lossless mix. Sounds like they can please both the 2 channel and 5.1 channel camps. Cannot wait to check out. Though AFTK, P Waves and Hemispheres would be amazing in lossless 5.1!!!!!!!!

SACD does not mean that they have to be 5.1.

Wish they would work with Terry Brown on any remix/remastering for BD audio. At least for Signals and prior.

Yep, 24bit lossless stereo and it absolutely kills the standard CD mastering. Sadly, the 5.1 was rubbish on it.

I thought the lossless DTS-MA track on the Snakes and Arrows Concert Blu-ray sounded tremendous - just as impressive as the Pink Floyd DSotM SACD, which is pretty much reference quality for 5.1 SACD. Those are by far the two best-sounding music compilations I have in my collection...

Yes, the live blu-ray surround is superb. I was talking about the album 5.1 mix (which was lossy and poorly mixed). It came on the MVI version of the album (CD/DVD pack).

yep - i was disappointed they didn't put the 5.1 mix on Snakes as DVD-A at the very least, but i agree with you: the stereo mix sounds superior to the 5.1 mix.

if i recall, the release also provided MP3s of the album.

According to the RushIsABand.com web site, the CD will contain the stereo mix while the DVD/Blu-ray will contain the Audiophile 5.1 Surround and Stereo mix. I caught this tour last year (Mohegan Sun Arena, Ct) & was Blown AWAY when they did the entire MOVING PICTURES to open the 2nd half of their show. The Lighting for this segment of the show was Unbelievable to say the least. Their Long-time Lighting guy (Howard Ungerleider, who joined RUSH in July of 1974) was close enough to where we sat (back of arena, about 10 rows off the floor, Great Visual vantage point to watch!), so after the show ended I walked down & said hello to him & complimented him on an Outstanding job on the Lighting; especially in the MOVING PICTURES part of the show. He was very cool, friendly, & apprciative. I Hope they come around my area again This year on the (extended) "Time Machine Tour".

I like Moving Pictures alot , but A Farewell To Kings has always been my favorite Rush slbum. I've had AFTK on 8-track cartridge, cassette, 3 vinyl LPs, and both CD editions (orginal release and the remastered one).
