Yea, that'd be nice, though possibly difficult (as he's pretty much retired from the limelight). But, maybe he could have been persuaded to give a few minutes of his time for new material on this release (we hope, anyway)

Beautiful big Cinerama theater. Grand Prix was in English with Japanese subtitles.

Director John Frankenheimer said of James Garner's handling of the Formula One racer, that had Garner not chosen be a movie star, he could easily have had a great career as a race car driver.
That's cool, Frankenheimer would know. Garner & McQueen both.

For $13.99 too, I'll prob. try to preorder this one soon. Blind buy without any worries. What a concept!

A great example of Super Panavision 70, and I hope it’s presented here in the 2.20:1 ratio. I wish they gave this the “SmileBox” treatment like HTWWW..

Aw heck, ordered. I saw this when it first came out in a CINERAMA theatre, that makes it a must-buy.

I don't think smilebox makes much sense here, since you're not getting the geometry issues resulting from converting 3-camera Cinerama to a flat screen...

a film with a wider aspect ratio of 2.55 would be suitable for smileboxing but for 2.20 - it wouldn't be THAT beneficial.

For all those people who keep saying "this would be great in smilebox!" and "they should have included a smilebox version!":

The smilebox version of How the West Was Won was intended as an attempt to replicate the look of 3-camera Cinerama films as they would have been experienced on the huge, deeply-curved screen in specially built Cinerama theaters, and the requisite image distortion that goes along with it. That's it. The only films where a smilebox presentation would be relevant would be other 3-camera Cinerama films, of which there are only a handful.

I believe Steve McQueen's Le Mans is released the same day as this. I'll definitely be picking up Le Mans before Grand Prix.

They just posted the review and state it is a new transfer. Do we really know this? Just because it sports an AVC encode doesn't mean the master is new. It easily could be the master used for the hddvd with a new encode.

I actually didn't state that it was a new transfer, but I have reworded that sentence to make it clear I'm discussing a new encode.

I see that it has German, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish subtitles, so it must be at least region A & B
