So what's the deal with this blu? Is John Hurt narrating? Will it work in Region A players? Has anyone actually seen the program, and if so, is it any good? I am very hesitant about preordering it, but given that it is BBC, I can't fathom it being bad.

I bought this Human Planet Bluray discs from Amazon UK...they are actually region free discs.

They all played well in my Oppo BDP 93 zone A/dvd reg 1 blu ray player!!!!!

You dont have to wait for the US version...they are region free!!! Buy now.

The pictures are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It cost me 24 pound with free shipping to Australia. Happy

It may well be region free, but doesn't it have 1080i50 video? The vast majority of US/Canada players (and the PS3) and TVs can't handle that framerate. Your Oppo is one of the few that can. In short:

REGION FREE 1080i50 ≠ PLAYABLE ON US EQUIPMENT

Obviously the US release version should work in US hardware.

I just saw an extended preview for this and I will definitely be picking it up in April when it is released. It looks fantastic. For anyone whom is curious about it, Discovery Channel will be airing the series in its entirety in April.

Surprising why American until now never intend to support on 50hz or PAL.

At least in Asian, we no need worried about this as both 50hz, 60hz, PAL or NTSC is fully support.

The only worried is region code issue, it still not much region FREE player available yet, except Oppo and Dune.

It's actually not surprising at all that the USA has never supported PAL/50hz video. It's based on the fact that the American electric grid has always been at 60hz, and the Europeans have always been at 50hz. Since different Asian countries have different voltage/hz combinations, electronics destined for that market had to be designed to be more flexible in terms of input.

Entirety? Doubtful.

There are 8 60-minute episodes in the UK version, but it's been chopped down to 6 ~44-minute episodes by Discovery Channel.

I caught a bit of this last night and I believe it was Mike Rowe (Deadliest Catch, Dirty Jobs) doing the narrating.

True, but they're putting the proper BBC version (with John Hurt) on the Blu-ray release. Discovery may well put the shortened Mike Rowe version on their own release (like they did earlier with S. Weaver's Planet Earth and Oprah's Life releases,) but I haven't seen anything about that yet.

For some reason I thought this was narrated by Mr. Attenborough. I'll still pick this up when the price drops a bit.

EDIT:

I realize now that I was confusing this with Frozen Planet, an upcoming documentary narrated by Mr. Attenborough.

Human Planet UK Edition - it is 3D Lenticular Slip Cover/Case

** This Human Planet 100% confirm Region FREE, but record with 1080i/50, that the reason why some user device at American cannot playback due to 1080i/50 issue. I just check the review of US edition Human Planet at here, it seems US edition also release under 1080i not 1080p. The re-release of Planet Earth Special Edition at UK also under 1080i/50, beside this all UK release of Galápagos, Wild China, Nature's Great Events, South Pacific, and etc all is under 1080i. So be caution when buying UK BBC BD if your player not support 1080i/50.

Another spectacular documentaries release by BBC. Highly recommended!

Glad this is coming out next week! Think I'll blind buy Ip Man 2 & King's speech tomorrow. Don't want to spend too much one week. Looks great though! Thanks for the review!

Nice! This is such a fantastic release. I just finished watching the 'Jungles' Episode last night (Episode 4) and I have really enjoyed the series so far.

USA somthin' lose in the case?

saw 2 copies @ BB, & it seems to have something heavy rattleing around inside.
Heavy enough to not be the disk slot holder, felt like a marble.
anyone know what's up?
ended up with planet earth, life (oprah) U&S promo.
