Thanks for confirming. I've found a seller on eBay who has one with slip unopened/still sealed, so I've snapped it up. I've never seen one advertised with the slip so quite a find for me.

StudioCanal slips released in very small numbers. Need to order Day 1 to give yourself best chance.

I'll go out on a limb and say their Vintage Classics are some of the most desirable, the prettiest and most collectible slips ever released in the UK.

I'd have to agree with you there. I love all the Ealing slipcovers, for example. Well happy with this one though.

I am sure you already know this but the slip cover will not be in the Vintage Classics branding but the original release of Ice Cold In Alex before they launched the Vintage Classics range

Yep, but to be honest I prefer the artwork without the VC banner. Makes the cover look cleaner.

This is long overdue from my WW2 wishlist .As an OCD fan of original poster art, I like the existing one but will wait for the review of this upcoming one to decide which one is better .

Beautiful presentation. Stock footage looks rougher than the filmed scenes but that's to be expected. Some scenes look a *little* softer than others, but for the vast majority of the movie, the level of detail is incredible. The print is clean, there's a nice layer of grain, and there's no obvious signs of artificial tampering. Colours are very good, with different shades very clearly defined. Even the night scenes look stunning.

As to how much of an improvement this is, it's a tricky one as I don't recall having any problems with the previous transfer, which also looked great. I suspect that this will be a case of YMMV in terms of whether the upgrade is significant enough to warrant a double dip. For me, this is one of my favourite movies from that era, and this is the definitive edition at this point, so I have no problem with having picked this up.

Audio is lossless stereo - presumably the same track as the previous release. Doesn't blow you away, but more than adequate.

Extras, ports across what was on the previous release and adds a few more interviews.

Highly recommended for fans of the movie. If you don't have this on blu yet then this disc is a no-brainer.

Have you got the previous release? If you have could you tell the difference in the picture quality. Is the 6oth anniversary better? Thanks.

I no longer have the original release, I let it go when I knew I'd be picking this one up.

As I said, my sense is that this one is better, it's just how perceivable that will be for people, and I suspect that this will be a case of YMMV.

I assume Studio Canal have again released this in 1.66:1 aspect ratio? If so, it’s wrong. The film was shot at Elstree for 1.85:1 projection.

So why shoot in 1.66 to start with?
Presumably it was shown theatrically at 1.66 in some venues.
Guess it's another one for overscan

What do you mean shot in 1.66:1? It would have been shot open matte at 1.33:1 as the vast majority of films were. It doesn't mean they were intended to be shown at that ratio. It may well have been shown at 1.66:1 in some local cinemas in 1958 but that doesn't mean the Blu-ray should be composed for how it was shown in those particular cinemas.

Presumably Studio Canal are not guessing and have some kind of documentation or other evidence to show 1.66 was the way to go.

As overscan will pretty much eliminate the side borders 1.66 is better than 1.33
