Yeah a least it doesn't sound as bad as he just has to rewrite anything that takes place or mentions Japan which hopefully isn't a lot and nothing more happens.

Being a massive GDT fan I always looked forward to all of his films and I am also a massive SOA fan, so you can imagine today's first casting announcement has be quite stoked? I think Charlie can thank Ron for the hookup.

'Sons Of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam To Star in Guillermo Del Toro's 'Pacific Rim'

Charlie Hunnam, best known for playing biker Jax Teller in Kurt Sutter's superb FX series Sons of Anarchy, is negotiating to star in Pacific Rim for director Guillermo del Toro. The Legendary Pictures film, scripted by Travis Beacham, is set in a future where giant malevolent creatures threaten to destroy the earth, city by city. To combat its annihilation, the planet must band together and use highly advanced weapons technology to eradicate the growing threat. So once again, Hunnam will be kicking some ass.

Pacific Rim will be produced by Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni, along with del Toro. Callum Greene will executive produce. Legendary's running point on the picture, but it will be done through the company's overall agreement with Warner Bros. Pacific Rim surfaced as an important movie when del Toro focused his attention on it as his next film after Universal halted At the Mountains of Madness, which del Toro was going to make with Tom Cruise.

Hunnam just starred in the drama The Ledge, which premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, and he just completed in Blackbird opposite Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde.

The first is an alternate version of Earth in the near future, decades after a historic date in November 2012 when the first kaiju, a towering Godzilla-like beast, emerged from a hole in the Pacific Ocean and attacked the city of Osaka, Japan. The second is “The Anteverse,” another universe on the other side of that gaping portal, 5 miles below our ocean’s surface. Since the first attack, the rim has been “spitting out” a variety of gigantic monsters at an increasing rate, which then stride out of the ocean and begin destroying sea-bordering cities, like Tokyo and Los Angeles. In order to combat these monstrous, otherworldly menaces, the military developed the “Jaeger” program, which trains teams of two pilots to jointly operate massive, building-sized mechanized suits of armor and high-tech weaponry.

This sounds great.

It sounds like a ripoff of Neon Genesis Evangelion, where instead of a succession of "angels" you have "monsters", but it still sounds good.

Idris Elba vs. Giant Monsters in 'Pacific Rim'

Idris Elba's fire just got a little hotter: Legendary Pictures is interested in the Thor, Prom Night, The Unborn and 28 Weeks Later actor for Guillermo del Toro's giant monster film Pacific Rim, TheWrap has learned. It should be clarified that the actor is in talks and NOT signed on to star, yet.

He would join previously announced Charlie Hunnam in the Warners pic that's set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.

Elba is now filming Prometheus with Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron. His Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is in postproduction at Columbia Pictures. In that movie, he stars with Nicolas Cage.

Travis Beacham wrote the screenplay and Legendary Pictures' Jon Jashni and Thomas Tull are producing.

Anyone who has watched even 0ne episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia could tell that Charlie Day was going to be the break-out star. The hilarious, self-deprecating actor turned the success of that show into a roles in last year’s Going The Distance as well as next month’s highly anticipated comedy Horrible Bosses and now Variety reports he’s in talks to join Guillermo Del Toro‘s robot vs. alien action film Pacific Rim.

According to Variety, Day’s role would be that of a professor and one could reasonably assume the professor provides some kind of comic relief.

The film already has one actor attached and he also happens to be a Charlie who stars on an FX show: Charlie Hunnan from Sons of Anarchy. He’ll play a former mech pilot who is forced back into the game once the world is threatened. Idris Elba is also rumored to be circling a role.

In case you don’t know what I’m talking about when I say “mech” or haven’t been keeping up with the Pacific Rim news, here’s a refresher and you’re in for a treat. This movie sounds awesome. Pacific Rim is about an alien race attacking the Earth on either side of the Pacific Ocean and how humans create huge, advanced robots to battle them. Those robots are influenced by mecha, a sci-fi and animation sub-genre which features humans piloting giant robots. Some more famous examples are Gundam and Evangelion.

The film is scheduled for a Summer 2013 release and should start filming in the fall. It’ll be Del Toro’s first directorial gig since 2008′s Hellboy: The Golden Army. And, I must admit, while I have enjoyed the potential casting and everything we’ve heard about this film so far, the best part about it has been not writing about Guillermo Del Toro producing or attaching himself to every project that’s announced. Just for doing that, this film is already a winner. Add Hunnan and possibly Elba and Day? Icing on the cake.

My interest in this movie just shot up four thousand percent. Charlie Day is absolutely hysterical. His character in It's Always Sunny- is outstanding. I would really like to see him in this.

I had some interest because of Guillermo Del Toro, but Charlie Day having a large role makes me want to see the movie right now.

Charlie Day: I'm not officially signed on so I've been told to dodge around answering questions, but I've definitely been having conversations with them about it. I'd hate to say I'd like to sign on because I don't want them to low-ball me [laughs] but hopefully that'll all work out.

CS: What was it like meeting the master, Guillermo del Toro?
Day: I was very thrilled to find out he'd seen every single episode of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. That's why we were meeting. Because Pan's Labyrinth is up there as one of the greatest movies ever made.

CS: He's such a personality. He's read every book, he's seen every movie. If you were to sign on would you have a "Monster Approval" clause in your contract?
Day: [laughs] I will not be given monster approval, but when it comes to Guillermo you let him do all the approving.

CS: Well I hope you can land it because it sounds like an awesome frickin' project.

It's not likely, they have only just finished filming episode 4 of Sons of Anarchy for the season, and they have another 9 to go. They will probably be filming for the next several months, and doesn't this start relatively soon?

That's what I'm saying, I wouldn't be surprised if Perlman or Jones were the next two cast in the movie. I mean, Perlman was already set for At the Mountains of Madness, and I think he was even rumored to be in The Hobbit as the vioce of Smaug when Del Toro was directing it. Perlman is like Del Toro's goodluck charm, I'm hoping he shows up in some capacity.
