Even tho Se7en was 1080i, it still looked pretty good, very sharp, a bit grainy tho.
All Alliance releases are from Canada so they are all imports. Check the Canada subforum.

Like I posted before, I had no problem with the video quality, I just didn't expect to find a Canadian video here in Florida! I will make sure to check the cases of movies better from now on!

I went to Suncoast last weekend here in MN and was surprised to find Canadian copies of A History of Violence, The Wrestler, Jet Li's Fearless, Kill Bill 1 & 2, Iron Monkey, as well as other mentioned at the top of the thread.

Question: does the Canadian disc of A History of Violence contain the slightly bloodier cut or just US cut?

It is DTS-HD MA, Alliance misprinted the back cover.

I seen all three Blade movies at my local Moviestop but I'll wait until they get a proper release here in the US before I pick them up, cause I hear Blade 1 isn't even in OAR.

Do you all think that the Canadian versions that FYE are releasing are going to be better than the Blu Rays released in the U.S?

If anyone is interested in getting all 3 blade movies, you can order the 3 pack from amazon.ca for 31 dollars, their ridiculous shipping of 10 bucks makes it 41 with no tax, so you will save like 8 or so dollars going that route if you don't mind waiting 2 week for it.

In the Canadian section, check out reviews/opinions of the Alliance titles. Many of them have the wrong aspect ratio, lossy sound, subpar picture quality, and no extras.

Some of them are worth buying. You just have to check them out on a case by case basis.

The FYE in Henderson, NV had the following Alliance titles:

- Blade
- Blade 2
- Blade: Trinity
- Boiler Room
- The Butterfly Effect
- From Dusk Till Dawn
- Made
- Rounders
- Reindeer Games
- Sin City
- Swingers
- Se7en
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre (same as WB BD release, just with a bilingual cover)

You should get it. I bought mine from Movie Stop in my area and the differnce in PQ between the DVD and this blu is day and night. Only problem with these titles from Alliance is that most of them are barebones releases! And in some cases not even subtitles!

First off let's clear something up. The Blade CA editions aren't crappy, they just aren't great. Blade I is incorrect aspect ratio but the other two are OAR with hi res audio. Check out the HighDefDigest.com review of the Canadian Blade Trilogy!

There are several titles that I have read good things about:

Good Will Hunting (1080p+ losless audio; only release worldwide, nice reviews)
Cold Mountain (1080p+lossless audio; only release worldwide, nice reviews)
Butterfly Effect (1080p+lossless audio;IS director's cut, box is wrong; only Region A release)
From Dusk Til Dawn (as mentioned already; there is also IT release)

Those are just the highlights. I have also read some reviews that the 1080i Alliance version of The English patient is pretty good. Just check reviews on this site and others. A lot of Alliance is crap but there are also some real gems in there.

I did indeed end up getting it. Got it off of Amazon for about $18 with shipping & all. YAY!!!

Saw it at FYE as well for $15, but what got me was that they had Final Destination 2 & 3, but they were $34.99 a piece! It's safe to say I'll wait on those two.

Default Alliance Blu-Rays in the USA?!

Okay, I did a search to see if this topic already exists and came up with nothing... so I apologize in advance if this is redundant of any existing threads out there.

I live in a suburb of Chicago, and I was doing some shopping at a local Meijer store earlier today, and was browsing through their movie section.

And at an end-cap, the had a bunch of Alliance Blu-Ray releases, which I thought were only sold in Canada.

What initially caught my eye was the packaging for Austin Powers in Goldmember. It had the same cover art as the DVD release from years ago (the cover art on the US Blu-Ray is different from the DVD). Then I looked at the side of the case, and say the Alliance logo, as well as the title in 2 different languages facing 2 different directions.

Then I started looking at the other movies around it (there were a few copies of Goldmember like this amongst other titles... there wasn't really any sense of organization to the whole thing), and most, if not all of them were also Alliance releases. I know they had several copies of Elf, and there were several other titles, but the specific ones escape me. All of them seemed to be priced at $9.99

I know someone is going to come in here and say "pics or it didn't happen". Well, I didn't have a camera on me, otherwise I would have taken a pic. So, take this all with a grain of salt if you must, but I am not making this up.

Has anyone else seen this at any other Meijer stores or at any other US retailer?
