Plus, in regards to Pixar specifically, I think some fans are annoyed that they still haven't seen Finding Nemo on Blu-ray, and instead, Disney is repackaging films that have been out for years.

I'm not complaining about the repackaging, because, as I said before, I don't have any of the films that are in the process of being repackaged (Cars, Ratatouille, WALL-E), so this is my chance to get them as a combo, which I have been waiting for.

They're just making them all uniform combo packs.

I think is a test to get rid of the DVD case releases. Cutting cost of production.

Never thought of that, that's an interesting point!

+1 I can't imagine that retailers like having to have all of the floor space for the dvd and blu versions

Pretty much to add the DVD and perhaps elimating the DVD only versions.

They are also being repackaged? I don't care for WALL-E but Ratatouille in HD was although I have the DVD so getting a Combo may be a wee stupid

I think it's to spike sales with the Combo pack, as they have been doing it with older WDAS releases (Robinsons, Chicken Little) and others (The Wild). Some are also to get rid of the Digital Copy. Princess and the Frog 's Blu-dvd-DC collection was discontinued in favor of the Blu-dvd combo pack. I guess the DC thing didn't catch on...

Simple.

Many of the early Blu-ray releases were Blu-ray only. Disney realized that with a Blu-ray+DVD Combo pack they could get rid of a DVD SKU and just sell the combo, thus converting DVD users to Blu-ray users. It saves and makes Disney more money all of the way around.

It's not just Pixar, but all Disney movies. Examples:

Cars
Enchanted
Tinker Bell (the 1st one)

Me neither! I'm going out this weekend to find the old versions, especially the version of Cars that was released with the Gift Set and the 3-Disc version of Wall-E. The repackaged Blu-Ray + DVD of A Bug's Life looks awful!

I don't get what they add a DVD copy, I'm buying the HD version, I don't care about a worse quality edition of the film.

Maybe you don't care for a DVD but those with Kids and a back seat portable DVD player would prefer (I guess) the DVD... or they may not have a BD player in the kids or room or something?

I also liked the Digital Copy stuff but if I'm honest some of the DCs from Apple looked terrible on the ATV....

Yep, see this thread: https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-mo...-7-5-11-a.html

As for wanting the DVD copies of the films, I only have a HDTV/Blu-ray player in the living room, so if I ever want to watch the movie in another room, I need the DVD, at least for now!

YOU don't, but lots of people do. Especially for a family film like Pixar's stuff... where you're more likely to do things with it other than watch in a dedicated home theater. (laptops, car players, children's rooms, lend to a friend -- this is all more likely to happen and we're not even close to the point where BD is everywhere).

Plus, as mentioned, we're facing a situation where shelf space at retail is at a premium. Being able to have just one release with both BD/DVD would seem to be an advantage there. I'm surprised more studios haven't done this yet.

(It also increases the likelihood of BD adoption, which means more $$$$ for Disney...)

No problem, I know that they are up on Amazon.com, that's how someone found them originally. I'm definitely going to get both when they come out as I don't have either yet and have specifically been waiting for a combo pack! Now if we could only get Finding Nemo...

As oppose to me and others where it's about the movies and and not about the collectibles.
I would say get over your superiority complex and stop worrying about people's motivations.

It hasn't been released in the U.S. yet. It was scheduled, probably the Nov. you mentions (i don't recall the exact date), but it was pushed back. As of now there is no release date that I am aware of.

But why do I have to buy a 4 disc version when I just want the movie in HD? I'm not against the combo packs, but I think they should release simple editions of the film too.
